Y9 student takes Gold and Silver at Gymnastics British Championships!
Amelie Morgan, a Year 9 student at Beaconsfield High School, has won a gold medal and three silver medals at the recent Gymnastics British Championships, held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool.
Amelie competed in the Junior All-Around competition, where she won silver and qualified to compete in all four apparatus in the Junior Apparatus Final, where she took gold for her work on the beam. Silvers were awarded for Amelie’s strong performances on vault and bars.
It was Amelie’s first time competing at such a big event, and she had the chance to perform alongside British Gymnastics stars, including her idol Claudia Fragapane.
The event, which was held between 24-26th March, started with a warm up training session on the Thursday followed by a nerve-wracking all-around competition on the Friday, where Amelie managed to 'go clean’ on all four pieces and picked up the Silver medal overall, an outstanding result for a first year junior.
This strong performance meant that Amelie was only one of two gymnasts to qualify for the all four apparatus finals on the Sunday. After a days’ rest, Amelie took to the stage again and pulled off another fantastic day of competition, coming away with the final two silver medals and being crowned British Champion for her gold medal winning beam routine.
