Kind of a trippy story with a strong horror vibe, and I've got to admit, liked it more than I thought I would.Sorrentino's art is essential here - shifting between an oppressively gritty style to explosions of mind-bending surrealism - the illustrations here really do set the tone and help indicate changes in pace in very clever ways. Awesome book with lots to love! If you’re a fan of horror and/or you like a strange story you should definitely go for this! I highly recommend this one and can’t wait for the next volume! In 2018, it was announced that a TV series based on the comic was in development by Hivemind Productions. The next year, James Wan and his production company Atomic Monster joined as co-producers. Lemire and Sorrentino are also attached as executive producers. Gideon Falls is finally coming together and it was totally worth the wait. It set a high bar of terror from the beginning and it continues to surpass that with each chapter. That's an impressive feat 25 issues in. As we approach the grand finale, I cannot wait to see what is in store for us, especially if this chapter is any indication. Grades: Overall, Gideon Falls is the perfect testament to the combined talents of Lemire & Sorrentino's ongoing partnership. Be kind to yourself and bump this to the top of your to-read pile. Issue #6: A signpost in the final panel shows that the city Norton and Dr. Xu live in is also Gideon Falls.For unknown reasons, a rivalry has existed between Stan and Gideon for years. Business rivals to begin with, their rather competitive personalities fuel their feud further. Gideon wishes to eliminate Stan for numerous reasons, namely to take control of his business and a strange secret it possesses and to remove the "obstacle" to winning Mabel's affection, and he plots day and night to figure out a means of revenge, though he is sometimes satisfied with simply irritating Stan. Stan doubts Gideon's abilities and constantly teases him.

Andrea Sorrentino’s art is surprisingly underwhelming given his usual quality work, though to be fair he’s not given anything very exciting to draw – lots of mundane everyday stuff for the most part. The visual spectacles are reserved for the batshit final chapter though when Sorrentino’s allowed to cut loose, drawing some remarkable, abstract stuff as the priest and some others venture into Lemire’s cut-price Upside Down. The city and rural polarity is working in multiple ways,” says Lemire. “First, in terms of pure aesthetics, the book contrasts the wide-open spaces and natural world of the small town with the dense and dirty world the big city.” Overall: The final panel of this issue is one of the most terrifying panels in the series so far. The book does come at a higher price – this in itself is not a deterrent given the amount of content and presentation. A slam dunk demonstration of why Jeff Lemire is one of my favorite comic book writers; hell, one of my favorite writers period. Lemire looks to do be doing something like what he did a few years ago in his Vertigo book Trillium with the parallel worlds/storylines – the priest is in one world/timeline, the mental patient is in another. I think that’s what the visual inversions mean – and that last panel. It’s just another unoriginal aspect bolted onto this patchwork of other pop culture elements. The art is fantastic! Sorrentino’s gritty style suits this book perfectly! It sorta reminds me of a mix of Azaceta and Sean Phillips which is something I say with the highest compliments. An amazing artist! This book has been addictive for many of us, largely because it has played off doubt and certainty for so long. Buying an issue of Gideon Falls is equal parts about buying the next chapter of a story and desperately hoping this is the puzzle piece you’ve been missing.

It’s because of that sheer consistency that makes reviewing Gideon Falls difficult at times. For the sake of the review, I can’t come here every time and tell you the same things, but Lemire/Sorrentino have delivered on every single issue of this book. This is consistent greatness from two of the absolute best storytellers in this industry. It’s that simple. It is a huge relief when things that you have been working on privately for quite a while go out into the world and people respond to it. Though I must confess I always know that I am in good hands with Andrea.
