Description

Even after a major victory over the Hungarians at Mohacs, the vassal rulers left by Ibrahim have dubious loyalties and the ultimate goal -- Vienna, home of Suleyman's great rival, Charles V of Spain -- remains out of reach. But you’re right, now I look at it, White Lion House is a ‘studied composition in vertical elements incised lightly with a pattern by Eley Kishimoto in a slightly token, weak reprise of the main tower’s sculpted skin . . .’ Thanks for that.

The house has lots of character and space- both things we appreciate. There are a lot of things to see and do nearby.

Keen cyclists will enjoy the challenge of the hilly terrain in and around Moretonhampstead with a network of bridleways, byways and quiet lanes to discover whether you're embarking on a long day in the saddle, off-roading or simply taking a leisurely cycle to take in the views. The information included was just okay, seeming to oscillate at random between whether it wants to be a detailed biography on the life of Suleyman or a more micro examination of the land wars waged between he and Charles V. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the luxury of having so much space for just the two of us. If you want to be on Dartmoor then the location cannot be beaten, with walks from the door in all directions. Moretonhampstead has everything you need for a week's stay, including a choice of good places to eat. Carpets a bit tired but that does not effect you stay its cosy and comfortable. In a good area for walking and visiting the local area. The local people are friendly and helpful. Ther were no problems parking as we were allocated private parking. Key safe easy to find.i took my mum there for her 80 birthday present she loved it she said it was amazing. The listing on Sykes detailed an immaculate property, in reality the property is very tired and In need of some TLC."

Enjoy a bit of alfresco dining on the beautiful dining table outside the kitchen or perhaps a morning coffee and croissant from the nearby bakery on one of the elevated terraces. We loved everything about the cottage all good quality furniture fixtures and fittings except for one of the bedroom door handles that kept falling off, but nothing that can't be fixed with longer screws." The primary predicted dynamic of people flow is reflected in the diagonal paving patterns rippling from Tottenham Court Road Station towards Covent Garden, with the main body of the square treated like an eddy off this to the north. This is still being planted with a number of mature trees, chosen to add changing seasonal colour and instant scale to the square. But whether this will be enough to lend it a centre of gravity under the dominating silhouette of the main tower soaring above is open to question.Everywhere, the original terrazzo and tiling has been restored or recreated, while externally the façade’s distinctive exoskeleton has been cleaned and new glazing installed, designed to match the old, while massively improving the building’s environmental performance. Needed weekend accommodation in centre of Ashbourne & this was perfect for our needs - spacious, clean & comfortable." Another issue that I have with this book is how de Bellaigue chose to write it. It's not written like a traditional historical biography where the author describes the events and then writes how they interpret the facts. It's written in the present tense like a novel. I had issues with this writing style. First as somebody who has studied history extensively it's hard to determine where the line between facts from primary and secondary sources and the author's interpretation lie. And second de Bellaigue's writing style is overwrought.

The ground floor has been infilled with frameless structural glazing. The most prominent area of ground-floor glazing is the retail unit that sits under Centre Point Link. We wanted the link bridge to appear to float above the retail space. To achieve this appearance, the retail space required maximum transparency and minimum structure. This presented several challenges. We engineered frameless insulated glazing units that stand 5.5m tall without any metal support framing. Large structural movements from the existing 1960s structure had to be accommodated by the glass within very minimal head and base restraint details. When fixing the head details, we had to avoid any drilling into the high-strength steel tendons of the post-tensioned bridge structure above. The south façade features 5.5m-tall sliding doors, with 4m x 3m door leaves to give a full opening width of 12m. This required extensive testing for weather-tightness and cyclical testing of the moving mechanisms. Explore the landscape on foot with The Dartmoor Way being a perfect way to start with this 90-mile circular route linking pretty hamlets and villages with a range of scenery from quiet country lanes to sheltered valleys or wild upland, with one route for walkers and the other for cyclists.I found this book very interesting. It is written as a drama novel, completely in present tense and with turn-of-phrases. To the point where it is hard to remember that is all history. It also covers so much. Rather than focusing on one character or country, it covers several and in detail. The actual information is cool too, it really paints a picture. It even counts jewels and fabrics, and how much they were worth. Europeans feared Suleyman, as they feared rule by the “heathen” Muslims, and he was after all the leader of Islam. At one time or another, many European states entered into coalitions to hold him off. But for decades one man stood above all the others as Suleyman’s nemesis: the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. Suleyman possessed a single ally in Europe: his trading partner, the city-state of Venice. But Venice was forever vulnerable to pressure from Charles and the French king and was, at best, an indifferent ally. From a distance of five hundred years, it seems as though the sultan was destined to fail. For all its finesse, this still inevitably feels somewhat like an office conversion – if a very high-end one. Indeed with the rather sombre monochromatic colour scheme carried throughout in finishes and materials, a splash or two more of Mad Men colour might have more successfully invoked the spirit of the 60s. But this is a very effectively realised conversion which will undoubtedly form the heart of the area’s revitalisation. Pell Frischmann has undertaken significant design changes to Centre Point House and Centre Point Link to enhance the new public spaces. Using modern analysis techniques, we were able to reassess existing columns and justify the removal of two entire floorplates at mezzanine and first mezzanine levels to create new double-height retail space. In addition, to enhance the value of existing spaces, we have created more accessible and usable space by adding several lifts and stairs and extending the basement to make room for plant areas and tanks. All the works had to be carried out while residents inhabited the upper floors of Centre Point House. Lion House is perfectly situated, we loved exploring Ashbourne, the park, the shops, and the river."
