The previous format meant that those furthest away from the captains usually only had one go, while the higher-billed celebs nearer the captain had two. Maureen made a quip that the microphone didn't quite catch, but which had the men's team in stitches.

The shows on this set feature a galaxy of celebrities, comedians and actors, including: Kenneth Williams, Diana Dors, Richard O'Sullivan, Barbara Windsor, Robin Askwith, David Jason, Yootha Joyce, Mollie Sugden, Paula Wilcox, Spike Milligan, Russ Abbot, Warren Mitchell, Kenny Everett, June Whitfield, Terry Scott, Dick Emery, Maureen Lipman, Beryl Reid, Rodney Bewes, Faith Brown, Paul Eddington, John Inman, Dudley Moore, Victoria Wood, all three Goodies and two Doctors Who! Read more about the condition New: An item that is still in its original shrink wrap from the manufacturer and the original manufacturer’s seal (if applicable) has not been removed. I certainly used to enjoy him in GUAC back in 1988 when these episodes were first airing, and so I was looking forward to his era very much.

The gag usually referred to some dreadful double entendre such as: "And I can still remember the look of glee on Lionel Blair's face as he was offered Howards End over Michael Aspel's desk. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Eartha Kitt has the highest international profile of anyone featured on the daytime series - and quite possibly outdoes the big names in the evening version in terms of recognisability. Lionel cackling like Cesar Romero's Joker when he gets the final word is just wonderful, made even more so because of how he and Kenny are playing off one another, both on their feet and face-to-face.

And probably the first transmitted during the daytime: the team captains now say "and on my team today" instead of "tonight".I was so wrapped up in that novelty that I completely forgot that about Jon's Worzel Gummidge connection with Una.

Given the volume of episodes on offer, I think it is justified there aren’t any special features in this set. For some bizarre reason, an early version of the theme music (until the 1981 Royal Wedding special) was exactly the same piece of library music used by the BBC's schools com-dram Grange Hill ( Chicken Man by Alan Hawkshaw). Talkback Thames (as it then was) hawked around a revival in 2010 after a Dutch version ( Hints) was a hit, with Kirsten O'Brien and Rufus Hound in charge of Andi Osho, Katherine Ryan and Mel Giedroyc and James Redmond, Paul Tonkinson and Charlie Baker, but to no takers. There are a number of set gestures which can be used, such as book, television, film, but the rest are totally open to interpretation which leads to a large amount of hilarity as you can well imagine. I liked the previous version which had "live" footage of each person waving or chatting after the show, but the tweaked version does help it feel a little more modern.
