Description

It might not seem like the Pioneer HDJ-CX is that special, but it can be pretty reliable for a good sound. As far as accurate studio headphones go, there is a ton of strong competition, but if you’re specifically looking for a flat ear cup with a focus on bass, then the CX will better speak to you. Pros For the price, you really can’t go wrong, although just be aware they might get a little uncomfortable when wearing them for longer DJ sets as the ear cups are quite small. And whilst these are definitely not a premium set of cans, you wouldn’t expect them to break anytime soon! Approximate price: Released in 2020, Pioneer has touted one of the key selling points as ‘durability’, and we’d have to agree. Despite being all plastic on the outside, the build quality is great, and they look and feel professional.

The HDJ-CX headphones are comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time without noticing their existence. The innovative, lightweight, ergonomic design is to thank for this outstanding level of comfort. Everything from the cable's wiring, which was streamlined to save weight, to the curl on the coiled wire, which was placed closer to the plug to improve balance, has been taken into account. As a result of all this, as well as the adjustable earcups and stainless steel headband, it's effortless to get the perfect fit. Yes, the HD 25s clamped your head a bit, yes they weren’t hi-fi headphones for long-term listening, but they sounded great, and were utterly reliable – you knew what you were getting. Ultimately, they seem like good headphones. If you want Pioneer DJ, and you want minimal, this is your choice. But if I had to put money on which model will still be around 5, 10 or even 20 years from now, it’d be the Sennheisers. They remain the classic by which any pretenders will be judged, and they’ll be hard to topple.

HDJ-CX is so lightweight you might forget you’re wearing them. Specially designed for absolute comfort and tuned to deliver tight audio with a wide range for mixing and monitoring music in any environment, the new headphones also feature a high level of sound insulation and are built to last. The super light weight HDJ-CX from Pioneer DJ offer superb sound with the comfort of a light and flexible design.

Tech spec

Cutting through the marketing speak, the HDJ-X10s are extremely well balanced, with a low-end that’s not overpowering or ‘muddy’ in any way. Because of this, we’d be happy using these in the studio as well. With help from the ‘sound insulation chamber’, they also eliminate external noise incredibly well, as you’d expect from the design.

The bass reflex chambers bring plenty of response on the low end. Because of this, the highs perhaps don’t come through quite as crisply compared to the Sennheisers – but again, it’s down to personal preference. We found that the noise isolation was also very good HDJ-CXs, so no complaints there. The new HDJ-CX on-ear DJ headphones from Pioneer are so light that you might not even notice you're wearing them. High-quality sound isolation, long-lasting comfort, tight audio reproduction and a wide dynamic range for mixing and monitoring music in any situation are just a few of the features found on these amazing new CX DJ headphones! Professional-quality on-ear headphones for DJs with an ultra-comfortable lightweight design, robust construction and high-fidelity audio reproduction. Light Form FactorWith regards to sound, it really depends on individual preference. These things have a notoriously neutral (or balanced) sound compared to most DJ headphones on the market. In other words, whilst it’s more than sufficient, the bass isn’t as dominant. This allows the mids and highs to come through more, which many DJs prefer. After testing them ourselves, these things are plenty loud enough, offering crisp highs and a pronounced bass output – which is just what you need for mixing in noisy environments. They’re also very well-padded and lightweight, with rotating ear cups and an extendable headband that would fit most people. The headphones come with interchangeable straight and coiled cables as well as a holder for the 1⁄4” plug adapter which you can clip to the cable so you never lose it. A pair of replacement ear pads are also included. As referenced frequently in this post, these are all things you’d want to see in a decent set of DJ headphones:
