I also liked Micah. He inspired others in very special ways and made them see that they were shining stars in the dark. He is the one who made this story thrive. Even though we broke up years ago, Damon’s never fully gotten the memo that I’m not his to torment. The knot in my stomach expands, undulating out in all directions. When I look again, the boy with the sunglasses is still laser-beam focused on me. Micah was in treatment with Alice, and he seems determined to get Lily to process not only her sister’s experience but her own. Because Lily has secrets, too. Compulsions she can’t let go of and thoughts she can’t drown out. Things that don't fit with the perfect girl she's supposed to be. The role played by the guerrilla poets and the voices they amplified was admirable and one of my favourite additions to this story! The truths their actions allowed to speak, and the outlet it provided others who needed to scream into the void and be heard, even if just a whisper, was touching and my heart soared to see how receptive the majority of the students were to these artistic displays. To see the power of words and art at play, and the healing it can aid was inspiring.

Micah Mendez. Got expelled from his old school. I heard someone found him perched on Deadman’s Cliff, trying to, you know . . .” Damon makes a throat-slitting motion with his thumb. It’s just, I have this vision, you know? A world where your diagnosis doesn’t define you, and getting help doesn’t make you weak or dangerous or other. And sometimes I forget that the world isn’t there yet.” Two months after the Night of the Bathroom Floor, it comes to my attention that I’m losing my shit at an alarming rate. Damon laughs. “That’s the thing. You never know what’s going on in someone’s head.” He points to each of us. “Any one of us could be a secret psycho.” And he doesn’t appear particularly psychotic.” I’m not exactly sure what a true psycho would, in fact, look like. But I do not think this kid is it.Lily hopes to stay as far away from Micah, who met Lily at Fairview, as possible. She’s scared of what will happen if her home life intrudes on her school life. This seems all but inevitable when Lily and Micah are paired up for a class project.

Enter Micah, a new student at school with a past of his own. He was in treatment with Alice and seems determined to get Lily to process not only Alice’s experience, but her own. Because Lily has secrets, too. Compulsions she can’t seem to let go of and thoughts she can’t drown out. A gorgeous and deeply touching rumination on the power of art, this book is for anyone who has lost their words and lost their way. The Words We Keep is a tender, heartfelt, and realistic look at mental illness, familial love, and finding your voice." —Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of Girl in Pieces and You'd Be Home Now The parts that scare you most, that’s where the artist is born, for fear comes from the mind. And art comes from the heart.”Go away, I say. But my voice is tiny and no match for monsters.” (an excerpt from the poem Monsters) p.155 A fost o poveste frumoasă si emoționantă care a reusit să surprindă lupta pe care cei din jur (inclusiv noi) o au cu proprii demoni.
