As my mind was opening to the world of classical music I sensed that the way the film made use of music, in particular the awesomely, eerie, Ligeti vocal works, was something more than just incidental.

And of course, the Apollo project was heading towards it's climax the following year, and the first manned round trip to the moon and back, Apollo 8, made it a particularly special Christmas that year. The 4K disc and streaming versions include a commentary with American actors Dullea and Gary Lockwood, as Dr. I also love the silence, the solitary truths of the story and the growing existential fear over the onboard computer system, the Hal 9000. Space ships dance with balletic grace and zero gravity is portrayed more convincingly than in anything I have seen since.

All the same set of supplements from the previous release are ported over for this anniversary Ultra HD edition and can be found on the accompanying Blu-ray. Remastering the film for modern audiences (at the cinema as well as at home) has been a labor of love for a number of key names from all sides of the cinema and home entertainment industries.

And finally, and most importantly of all, you need to understand that it really is possible to love a film while at exactly the same time, wondering whether you're going to make it through to the end or not. For more about 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K and the 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K Blu-ray release, see 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K Blu-ray Review published by Jeffrey Kauffman on September 28, 2023 where this Blu-ray release scored 5. The ship is run by HAL 9000 (voiced by Douglas Rain), a supercomputer that represents the pinnacle in human-created artificial intelligence.Better still, 2001 isn’t just some throw away Sci-Fi because it’s also far ahead of its time (in some ways even it was today) as it’s also accurate in its scientific depictions of life in space, in both a technical and human sense.

Huge amounts of the film pass by without a single word of dialogue, and, in truth, without anything you would normally think of as narrative progression. And the sense of awe just grew as the film shifts into the Dawn of Man sequence, before leading to actual drooling as we get to experience Kubrick’s remarkable vision/recreation of space in its new 4K, high dynamic range glory. Clarke and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull, go behind-the-scenes into the making of Kubrick’s classic space epic. I found that the choice to remove all or most of the dialogue from the beginning of the film made it tedious and hard to follow and I found the effects at the end, like the earlier long scenes of beautifully shot model space-ships, while doubtless impressive and awe-inspiring at the time, now just a bit of an endurance mission if they went on for more thirty seconds.

Clark, and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull, an ex-NASA guy; “Vision of a Future Passed: The Prophecy of ‘2001,’” in which experts reflect on the accuracy of Clarke and Kubrick’s world of “2001”; a vintage look at the “2001” movie set in London, hosted by Look Magazine, where Kubrick got his start as a photographer in the late 1940s; “What is Out There? Warner Brothers have once again knocked it out of the park as far as the packaging and special features are concerned (both digital and physical), so please pour yourself a drink and watch my unboxing video below to see what is included, with all of these “Film Vault” releases being to such a high standard. Examine the philosophical themes of 2001: A Space Odyssey, including possibilities of extra-terrestrial life, the concept of god and the intersection of these two possibilities. As well as 4K UHD versions of the film in question, plus excellent extras (not just on another disc) here you’ll also get a collectible set of in-world bonuses. Kubrick picked the best of other ideas and compiled this into his movies, such as the strange music from 'Forbidden Planet', and the lack of editing in many scenes that go on for several minutes.

The two moon - shuttle stewardesses watch Judo, on what we would say now is on a wide-screen television, showing its multi-cultural backgrounds to these technologies. And the color preservation is rich and vivid, evident from the kaleidoscope portal of colors and by HAL 9000’s ominous red eye, never looking so sinister. And not just that, but also I think about what I'm bringing to the experience with my own knowledge and my understandings of everything I've already seen. Both are certainly more than serviceable, and the original mix doesn’t ‘age’ the film unnecessarily. It is actually said (not just by me) this is one of the best release of an older movie in the uhd format to date and I can guarantee that it lives up to that expectation. aspect ratio, the 4K video's best feature is the significantly enhanced contrast levels, making the entire film seem sparkling new and rejuvenated. Fifty years later, Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey remains a hypnotic, seminal sci-fi masterpiece of visual storytelling that continues to inspire, dumbfound and challenge.
