Ainda estou no começo dos estudos, mas contente com meu progresso e já pensando em quando poderei iniciar os outros livros do mesmo método. The only downside is that a lot of the songs are cheesy (eg: Kum-Ba-Yah, Michael Row The Boat Ashore).

Talk about a party trick, which given I couldn't play a single other tune, even Chopsticks, was no mean feat. The good thing is that Moonlight Sonata is played on a loop in my GP surgery (very badly) on a sort of 'doctors hits album to drown out patient's screams' sort of an album, along with that tune that used to be on a well known cigar advert in the 1970s. Numbered fingering is provided throughout, chords are quickly introduced, and theory is explained as required and in a digestible way. It’s the book I used exclusively when I first started teaching piano, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it. The songs after that were very easy to understand and play, but they involved 2 or 3 keys being pressed simultaneously by both hands at the same time. Brother John * Café Vienna * The Can-Can * Chiapanecas * Cockles and Mussels * The Cuckoo * The Donkey * The Entertainer * A Friend Like You * The Gift to Be Simple * Go Down, Moses * Good King Wenceslas * Good Morning to You!

A self disciplined adult can become a proficient hobby piano player following the Alfred's books "guidance"; those with concert pianist aspirations should get a good teacher. Other popular series include the Piano Adventures for adults and the John Thompson piano course, both of which I plan to cover on this channel in the coming months. In general, I think any method book that you select is going to have some songs you really like and some songs that are less interesting to play. Anyway, every time I'm sitting there waiting my turn to see the quack I think 'I used to be able to play that (Moonlight Sonata not the cigar tune) and better than this version'.He's Got the Whole World in His Hands * I'm Gonna Lay My Burden Down * Jericho * Jingle Bells * Joy to the World!

Includes a "Just for Fun" section and an "Ambitious" section for the student who will devote a little extra effort toward learning some of the great masterworks that require additional practice. The only reason I could attempt it was the left hand doesn't do too much on the twiddly diddly front. It leaves no holes in learning and while you won't be a piano master at the end of it, you will move from stage to stage in a manner that's smooth. We usually give up and move on around page 100 (the piece “Singin’ in the Rain”), since by that point most people are itching for a new book to start tackling. But after being exposed to some of the pieces in Alfred's I'm becoming interested in other genres which includes classical pieces. The left hand doesn't get developed properly, it just plays chords, and the book moves at an unrealistic pace. It is a greatly expanded version of Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course that will include lesson, theory, and technique in a convenient, "all-in-one" format.

Blues for Wynton Marsalis * Brother John * Café Vienna * The Can-Can * Chasing the Blues Away * Chiapanecas * Cockles and Mussels * The Cuckoo * Day is Done * Dueling Harmonics * The Entertainer * A Friend Like You * Go Down, Moses * Good King Wenceslas * Good Morning to You! Again, this is done in a way that won’t seem like you’re having to learn too much information but at the same time you’ll enjoy the increased amount of things that you are learning and able to play on the piano. However, they are OK because each song has something in it - a new challenge - that made me forget the cheesiness and focus on trying to play it properly.

Piano players come in all ages and in fact we don’t always start learning the piano when we’re young. and thought I'd try and learn from scratch properly rather than the other ludicrous home-spun method I invented. This comprehensive course adds such features as isometric hand exercises, finger strengthening drills, and written assignments that reinforce each lesson's concepts.
