In the Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab, we’ve spent hundreds of hours researching and testing over 200 stain remover products and laundry detergents to help you keep your laundry looking its best — even whites! In our most recent full-category test of stain removers, we tested 37 products to review the effectiveness, ease of use and overall value of each product. Mud Food and drink: If you’ve had a minor accident, such as spilling a cup of tea in bed, dilute some washing up liquid in water and gently dab the stain until it lifts, leaving it to dry afterwards. Mud: To remove mud marks, sprinkle salt or bicarbonate of soda over the marks and leave to dry, then vacuum. How to do it Some curry stains contain strong natural dyes that are almost impossible to shift. Dab with a strong solution of detergent before laundering. Soak stubborn stains in a solution of hydrogen peroxide bleach.
