This part was very interesting. It showed the characters patriotism and how they reacted to events but it's not heavy unreadable stuff. If you like historical romance with a bit of a spiritual feel, this is the book for you. In the 1940s Florence and her husband are separated by World War 2 having met and married just before hostilities started. An old lady in Australia receives an unusual letter in the 1990s and Max has some strange feelings about past lives in 1988- how do these three strands of plot come together?

Inspired by a friend’s (Simon) story about reincarnation and the possibility that we may have lived before, author Montefiore has penned an incredible multi timeline (1944, 1988 and 1995) where the thread of Simon’s spiritual adventure is woven throughout. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in past lives or not, this can be simply enjoyed as a wonderful story. Poor Kitty Deverill had a lot to deal with at her young age, but she was spunky, delightful, and resilient.

The only thing that could make it better is know that the book is the first of a trilogy and that if the other two are as good as the first I have a lot of great reading ahead of me.
