About this deal

South Africa’s Otter Trail in the Tsitsikamma National Park in widely regarded as the country’s best hiking trail. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch. Bob was my roommate at Iowa State University way back when, and is a skilled outdoorsman, an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Essentially in all GoreTex shoes I ever owned, from hiking boots to essentially everyday leather sneakers, the membrane degraded over very short time (at most within a year or two).

They come fully lined and in varying degrees of water resistance, and you can easily waterproof them yourself for extra protection. While these are not sufficient to keep me outside for long during the harsh Midwest winters, I wear mine frequently for short jaunts and feel like I’m in slippers the whole time. They dry much faster, and you can usually have at least one pair dry to use against the skin in the morning. The Tracker Snow is the best option for winter, but we’ve had a great experience using the Tracker FG as well. The following warm barefoot winter boots are cozy and comfortable, but not as functional for lots of time outdoors in wintery conditions. I've had a new pair of Nepal Extreme Evo that I had to send back after only a few days of use because they leaked. And by reducing the layers you can create space for including inserts such as rock plates for gnarly paths, or impact absorbing insoles for road walking.

Mukishoes has a few other really nice barefoot boots, but the Igneous is the warmest and best for wintry weather! I slipped them on over my socks then slipped my feet into my regular and not at all waterproof bike boots. I bought two pairs about 10years ago and they're still going strong in bike boots and walking boots. But if you battle cold feet when active outdoors, the 281Z Hiking Boot Liners deserve a spot in your winter gear closet. It has got to the point now where there isn't enough choice in the market as people expect to see GTX in everything.

If you have thicker ankles and calves and don’t need the ties, Steger also has models that are just pull-on.I think it was Colin Fletcher who said that he felt sorry for folk who weren't hypochondriacs, they didn't know what pleasures they were missing out on! A gimmick the manufacturer thinks we will want and then proceeeds to tell us it’s something that we need. The reference to the double wide is because that is the widest option for extra wide feet (and what Samantha, contributing author, wears in Stegers).
