The Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox LF (large, foldable) is the missing link between the Bushcraft Essentials’ original Bushbox and Bushbox XL outdoor stoves. I guess it suitable to take a warm without anything on trivet, but not good to cook something because difficult to keep constant fire power. The Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox Ultralight Stove can be used with wood and other organic material, a standard Trangia burner or even a Esbit. For smaller camp mugs and cookpots, you will want to use the trivet and set them directly on that. I’ve heated up water in my TOAKS 450ml mug this way on many occasions and, while it works great, you do have to be mindful that the mug is going to get pretty hot. Use a hot pad and let it cool sufficiently before trying to drink from it. I first noticed my condition shortly after I got married. It started simply enough. I recognized it when I started making sure that I did the dishes before the wife got a chance to.

I gave use 4 stars because you have to make sure that the pot you are using fits inside the elevated potrests or is big enough to fit stabil on top of them. Think of a firebox as simply a tiny, contained and controlled cook fire. It is basically a campfire shrunk down to the size of your cookpot, which makes it incredibly efficient in terms of the amount of wood it takes to cook a meal. Just as with the alcohol stoves mentioned above, the adjustability of the Bushbox Ultralight allows you to find that perfect flame height for the cooking conditions, cookware, and volume of food you are heating. Charcoal BriquettesThis last step is optional unless you are using a very small cookpot or are going to grill on your Bushbox Ultralight. Most of the time I do use the trivet, but only so I don’t lose it – and I’m sure it does add some strength to the stove. Overall, I was very impressed by this little stove. If you're looking for something that is very compact but still want to use biomass that you can find in your surroundings and not carry solid alcohol, then this is your choice away from an Ezbit or Trangia.I mean these are nice choices but less versatile.

Solid fuel tablets like Esbit or hexamine work great in the Bushbox Ultralight. If you are suing the tablets by themselves, simply place the tablets right onto the grill plate. The holes in the grill plate will allow the tablet to get plenty of oxygen and burn with maximum efficiency. Bushcraft Essentials: the German brand setting the outdoor market alight with their lightweight, collapsible stoves that use twigs for fuel | READ MORE When it comes to ultralight cooking with liquid fuel, alcohol stoves are tough to beat. Not only are they generally compact, lightweight, and efficient, but the fuel is widely available and easy to find practically anywhere. As mentioned above, you can assemble your Bushbox Ultralight Stove with the grill plate in any one of three positions. But you can also switch the grill plate and trivet, or just use the trivet as a base plate if you are using an alcohol stove. On top of the Bushbox LF the included stainless steel Trivets ensure safe standing even for smaller cups and cooking vessels. The triangular design makes it fairly stable even with a larger pot. The size though is perfect for a camping personal pot as you can see from the video. I chose wood as a fuel because it is the hardest to use on this but it proved pretty easy even with a bit of wind (as you can hear from the beginning of the video). You can choose to use either the top piece or the dents to put your pot on, depending on the size. I needed very little fuel to boil a cup of water and using little biomass is the main purpose of these little stoves. Also add the ashtray collector piece and it becomes isolated from the ground and therefore safer to use everywhere. I’ve also used it as a makeshift windscreen before by assembling it without the trivet and setting it upside down over the burner of my canister stove. It was awkward, but it worked. Ultralight and Compact You can use rubbing alcohol (91% denatured alcohol) from any drug store or Heet (or similar) fuel stabilizers that can be found at gas stations and auto parts stores.

Like all of Bushcraft Essentials’ stoves, the Bushbox LF is made in Germany and has multi-fuel capabilities compatible with wood, Esbit, Trangia, etc. Using a pot of 95-98mm diameter means it fits between the supports on the top of the stove (and it won't fall through), so you won't need to carry or use the top trivet. The BushBox XL Combination Kit weighs in at just over 800g, so it’s not the lightest, but it’s made from solid materials, which mean your food is in safe hands on top of it. For its size it is ultra portable, folding down to thinner than 1 cm, inside its own special carrying case. Bernhard Syndikus was the criminal 'famous' ex-lawyer I mentioned, who was hired by this company but gladly lost the case and lost his license shortly after in 2016. The Bushbox Ultralight also updrafts the alcohol stoves much better than would be if they were sitting directly on the ground, Basically this means they get more oxygen and burn more efficiently. And as mentioned above, the bottom grill plate can be adjusted so that the flame of the alcohol burner is the ideal distance from your cook pot.

The best thing I’ve found for cleaning a firebox stove is Barkeepers Friend, which is a product similar to Comet, but safer to use around food and cookware. Simply scrub each piece of the stove with Barkeepers Friend and a brush, and let dry on a paper towel. Accessories and Complementary Gear I have the 5" Firebox, only improvement would be weight. Its a very versatile cooking machine and pretty much bomb proof. Sterno is not the “go to” camp cooking fuel it once was, but it is still a viable way to cook while out on the trail and works wonderfully with the Bushbox Ultralight.

Speaking of the TOAKS 750ml cookpot, if you get this stove, I highly recommend getting this pot with the bail handle ( read my review here). This is a fantastic combination, and it you figure out a solution for the stove pouch, the Bushbox Ultralight will actually fit inside! Now if you want more power, I suggest you consider the Bushbox XL also from this maker. Like this one, it has a very well thought and sturdy design and you can't go wrong. This model is ultra lightweight, the other one not so but a real workhorse. With the Bushbox LF you are completely independent, as it can be used in many different ways and is suitable for natural solid fuels (twigs, branches, leaves, charcoal, animal dung) as well as for spirit burners (e.g. Trangia), Esbit tablets, gel cookers, etc. At Camping Things we’re proud of our selections and only review the most high-quality equipment around, at the best prices. These ultra portable stoves are light, powerful and built to last BushBox XL Combination KitI have a variety of TOAKS cookware and my 750ml titanium pot fits perfectly in between the small pot holder tabs on each of the side plates. Larger pots actually sit up on these tabs, which makes sense since you would want a slightly larger fire and need the flames to spread out more. Thanks to the Trivets, you can place an external heat source (e.g. Trangia) at any height in the Bushbox LF. The first time you assemble the Bushbox Ultralight is a bit of a challenge and you will be worried about bending or breaking something. But the pieces are very strong and the design, again. is ingenious. Once you get the hang of it, you can have it together in 30 seconds or less.
