Without a doubt, this kit is a major undertaking to the prospective builder, and despite the 3D parts, the sheer quantity of etch means that you will need some patience and prerequisite skills in dealing with that medium. The courageous pilots in the biplanes’ open cockpits flew low so Bismarck’s sailors couldn’t train their guns, and the battleship’s anti-aircraft defences had trouble with the bombers’ slow speeds. The ship's distinctive silhouette and powerful armament are all meticulously and accurately reproduced. This view of the hull shows some nice features such as bilge keels and the ridge for the side armor belt. There's a Bismarck name decal for the raised nameplate, it's even portrayed in iconic German "Fraktur" font! Had Bismarck not received damage at the hands of Prince of Wales, she would have remained in the Atlantic on her primary mission to destroy Allied supply ships and escorts. Bismarck uses the same size box as the other large Amati releases, such as HMS Vanguard, HMS Revenge, Fifie, and the recent Orient Express Sleeping Car kit. After the battle with the HMS Hood on May 24, 1940, it is believed that the turret tops were painted yellow. Last year, Amati revisited the Bismarck themselves and released a reworked kit, which from what I believe, is a more accurate and certainly more detailed kit.
