Signed to the front free endpaper by Martha Holmes, with a Stanfords signed copy sticker to the jacket. And this book claims just the same - from drone pilots credits for the top-down look at animal activity, to cameras stuck to the sides of whales that pick up previously unknown behaviour.

I often find myself reaching for this book even having read it cover to cover whilst sitting on the settee, just to revisit these incredible images. Great book, it was on a recommended reading list for the Marine Zoology course I am doing and the local library did not have a copy (? The book adds even more information and detail, with over 300 pages packed with text and more than 200 photographs and stills from the BBC series.

He is also director of feature-length wildlife drama, Meerkats - The Movie, for Harvey Weinstein/BBC Films. From the tropics to the poles, from the shores to the deeps, the waters of the planet teem with an amazing diversity of creatures and plants and a wonderful sample of it is portrayed here in the book's 400 or so colour photos. It also has enough minor typos for me to mention them, perhaps a sign of it being forced on the shelves in time for transmission. Told in short chapters with attractive colour illustrations throughout, it's a brave and eccentric book about the nature of greed.

I bought it as a gift to give at christmas time, however, I actually decided to keep it for myself after thumbing through the first couple of chapters. There's also additional snippets of info from behind-the-scenes, revealing how some of that jaw-dropping footage is captured, and some insightful comments from the film crew. Sir David is a Trustee of the British Museum and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; an Honorary Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge; a Fellow of the Royal Society and was knighted in 1985. Then in 1952 he joined the BBC as a trainee producer and it was while working on the Zoo Quest series (1954-64) that he had his first opportunity to undertake expeditions to remote parts of the globe to capture intimate footage of rare wildlife in its natural habitat.

As well as shining a light on ocean life, coral reef and arctic ice communities and shoreline existence, Blue Planet II examines unflinchingly what the future holds for our ocean dwellers. David Attenborough has signed the title page of this eighth printing, First Edition hardback as published by BBC Books in 2017.
