For all of those who keep insisting that Stephen King is a literary equivalent of Big Mac and fries, writing in the comfortable confines of the frequently-despised 'genre' - please take a look at The Body: The Fall from Innocence, which is much more familiar to public in the quite faithful adaptation by Rob Reiner - 'Stand by Me'. I know this was originally part of a collection, so I wouldn't rule the entire collection out- I just wouldn't bother re-reading this one. His crime thrillers featuring Holly Gibney include Mr Mercedes, winner of the Edgar Award for best novel, and The Outsider, both of which were adapted into successful TV series, as well as Finders Keepers, End of Watch and the title story from If It Bleeds. During the course of their journey, the boys, who all come from abusive or dysfunctional families, come to grips with death and the harsh truths of growing up in a small factory town that does not seem to offer them much of a future.

I was reminded a lot of IT- not because anything in the book was all that scary, but just because the boys seemed like they were doing a lot of the same things.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Certainly the King version is much more vulgar and up front, but the wonder of youth and the harsh reality of time is there, in the film.

I’ve already added a few more of his books to my list that I’d like to pursue next and looking forward to more horror and fun!The boys make plans to tell their parents they'll be camping out behind Vern's house while they walk about 30 miles along the railroad tracks to find Brower's body. Although the plot is based on the need to find a dead body, this tale is for anyone who enjoys a fine coming-of-age journey in the good ol' days.
