About this deal

Choose between ‘cups’ for French Press or Filter and ‘shots’ for Espresso to get the right dose for the coffee you’re brewing. This means that they’ll send one of their coffee experts to your home to ‘tune’ your Smart Grinder in to your Dual Boiler, so you’ll have the right grind size and dose volumes for your favourite beans from the start. The efficiently designed Stainless Steel Conical Burr blades rotate slower than flat burrs, meaning less heat transfer and greater particle surface area that translates into sweeter and more balanced flavours. The other far more annoying is that the timer runs down to zero and continues from the top again and the buttons don’t work. I’ve been using the Sage Dose Control Pro for a few months and I’m usually quite happy, using it daily for espressos with my Lelit Mara X.

Really enjoyed using Rise the last few years - bi-monthly boxes perfect for me and you get to try lots of different coffees. This is to ensure the machine is kept in top notch condition, resulting in less breaks downs and better tasting coffee.Baratza Sette has a good reputation for espresso – I don’t think it’s zero retention, but I think it’s very low (even the Niche Zero isn’t quite Zero retention). At this point I took it apart, expecting to find a pebble, and I didn't find anything in the burrs except coffee beans. When asked about the Dual Boiler, Australian Barista Champion Craig Simon deemed it “Ridiculously good. Choose between one shot, two shots or manual control over how much espresso ends up in your cup for the perfect dose every time. This is a low-cost grinder, the burrs alone in some commercial grade grinders cost more than this grinder, and some of the grinders at around the one to two thousand pounds mark, or above, will usually, hopefully, produce more consistent particle size.

The dose seems pretty consistent but my timings went from 30s to 20s for 2oz without changing the settings unexpectedly recently once, wondering if it might have just been a bad 200g bag loaded in though. Over the last couple of months the grind time for about 17g of coffee at grind size 6 to 10 has increased from about 12 seconds up to 22 seconds. Sage are the UK equivalent to Breville, the kitchen appliance giant that was founded in Sydney in 1932. This is very much an all-rounder grinder, as I've said, and really the only negatives are that it's not a specialist grinder, but that's not really a fair comment, it's similar to reviewing a family SUV and listing “it's not a racing car” as a negative! If you are using yours everyday, with dark roasted, oily espresso beans and skip the cleaning, your coffee grinder may burn out quicker. If I change those parameters is there a button i press which brings me back to grind 14/double dose/18.
