Ink is rubbed into the marks that have been created on the surface of the acrylic, then the excess ink is rubbed off. I tried to find a way to use a larger piece of paper and send it through the machine more than once, lining up the edges, but it won’t work with the design of the machine. Just make sure to keep your user manual to refer to the plate combinations you'll need to die-cut and emboss. To use the Cuttlebug, you place it on a flat surface and simultaneously open both sides so they are parallel with your table. I relied on sideways lighting to see the marks I was making as it was really difficult to see what I was doing.

Continuous Embossing: Starting in the summer of 2012, Cricut released continuous embossing folders which allow you to emboss longer materials. Then you crank the handle and it all comes out the other side, with the image embossed on the paper. The marker pen hardly showed up black on black, and because the acrylic is opaque rather than clear, I couldn’t place my drawing behind and trace through, so I wasn’t sure how accurate I was being, and I was working in reverse too.

It also comes with two metal dies (I used the “Thank You” one for my first project) and an embossing folder. The instruction booklet that is also included is easy to follow, and it has pictures to make it even easier. Unlike the electronic machines, though, the Cuttlebug doesn’t come with materials for your first project.
