About this deal

A couple of months ago Dermatica were kind enough to offer me a three month trial of their treatment plan and I thought I would document my experience to share with you guys. One thing to bear in mind is tret is a journey and you need to be prepared in case of irritation - Dermatica offer plenty of information and I had a clear idea of what to expect and what to do, meaning I actually experienced very mild side effects. If your skin is on the sensitive side I think it takes a lot longer to become accustomed to regular retinoid usage.

As soon as Dermatica saw my photos, they instantly told me I need treatment for Melasma so that was that. High potency of azelaic acid yet doesn't irritate me due to the additions of glycerin and squalane etc. This formula includes aloe, glycerin, and azelaic acid, but it’s worth noting that most azelaic acid products usually contain an azelaic acid derivative like potassium azeloyl diglycinate. It is moisturising, but not as much as PC or Dermatica, and I find it takes a little longer to rub into my richer skin tone. I really love that Dermatica haven’t skimped on hydrating ingredients here – oily skin needs moisture too! I was a user of azelaic acid prior to this so newbies may have to adjust slowly due to the initial tingling you can get when first starting out. Founded in 2018 by Dwayne D’Souza, Dermatica is an online dermatology service that creates bespoke skincare prescriptions based on your skin’s needs.

You start your consultation online by answering questions and uploading photos – this allows the Dermatica team to review to ensure they recommend the right products. Also, if you’re someone who gets periodic breakouts, but you don’t want to use a benzoyl peroxide treatment, this works too. I'm a normal 35yo makeup-obsessed gal just trying to find the right products for my oily and acne-prone skin.If you’re already using a retinoid, you might find that your skin is hardy enough to use this morning and evening but I generally prefer to use this just at night.

I switched to Dermatica after seeing a GP for almost a year about my skin - only to be offered antibiotic treatments which did nothing to help my acne. With over 5 years' experience of writing in the fields of beauty and lifestyle, Sarah is passionate about all things content, makeup, skincare, wellness, and lifestyle. Dwayne felt that high-quality, dermatology-recommended, and evidence-based prescription skincare was out of reach for the vast majority of the population. The vitamin B5 in this formula comes from panthenol which is a humectant (just like hyaluronic acid). I bought it for my mild rosacea to see if it would help, but I had to stop using it after 4 days because my face went extremely red, like a huge flush, which I don't normally have.It comes in the mail every month, and your progress is also tracked online, which will help them to assess if the treatment needs to be adjusted or not.

I'd give the product itself 4/5 for its effect on the skin, but minus 5 for the huge cardboard box it arrived in, when the bottle itself is only a few inches long. Each month you get a tube of product which slowly changes to increase certain ingredients as your skin gets familiar with it. When my first Dermatica treatment arrived I was SO excited to use it, but retinoids are definitely a waiting game and in retrospect I wish I’d gone a little slower in my initial approach! Azelaic Acid is fantastic for acne sufferers as it helps reduce inflammation as well as fading any pigmentation that has been left behind by spots. You aren’t likely to notice a difference when you’re looking at skin every day, so it’s really nice to see the photos side by side (if not a bit cringe).Azelaic acid was recommended to me by renowned skin specialists Dr Stefanie Williams and Dr Anita Sturnham. Aqua, Azelaic Acid, Propanediol, Squalane, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-75 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Cetyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium Hydroxide, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Ceramide EOP. Because azelaic acid is a tyrosinase inhibitor , it stops your skin from being able to create as much pigment, and that's why it's sought after as a treatment for hyperpigmentation and dark spots.
