About this deal

So, while his sister Sootica learns how to ride a broomstick and turn mice into toads, Gobbolino sets off to find a nice warm fire and a family to care for him. It has been published with new illustrations more than once and a 70th anniversary edition of the self-illustrated version was published in the Puffin Modern Classics series. I realise that the repetition of whole sentences reflects the style of old fairy tales, but it didn't make it any more interesting to read. You're going to have to read the book to find out the name of the other cat) My daughter, aged 9, really loved the story and it is her that gives the book 5 stars.

Gobbolino is such a cute little thing that every setback in his adventure to find a kitchen was really sad and you wished him all the best. It is so monotonous, I could barely bring myself to read on, but I wanted to finish it since I knew I enjoyed it as a child. Gobbolino by Ursula Moray Williams is the charming tale of a witch’s cat who would rather be a kitchen cat. There are all the necessary characters that make a fairytale work: wicked witches on broomsticks, an ill but kind princess, a dragon in the tower, a kind woodcutter and his vain granddaughter… However, reading the story as an adult, I couldn't help seeing where the story was coming from: the misfit, disconnection, abandonment, and loneliness. Although his mother Grimalkin and sister Sootica are both witch's cats, Gobbolino longs to be a kitchen cat instead, to be loved rather than feared. So he sets out on a journey to find a new home, but when people discover he is a witch's cat he is blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer's milk turning sour and the orphanage children's gruel turning into chocolate. In a series of adventures, our hero continually finds what appear to be ideal homes, only to be turned out again when his parentage is revealed, or the circumstances of his human companions change. A class activity could include listing the different characters in the book and then drawing pictures of them.

It never occurs to him to strike out on his own, rather than letting circumstances just carry him along.

After being rejected by the crowd he was born into, he embarked on a journey to find the home he would belong. With his bright blue eyes and sparky magic whiskers, no one could mistake Gobbolino for a kitchen cat, but that's just what he longs to be. His supernatural powers finally removed, Gobbolino finds himself reunited with the very family whose father wanted to drown him at the beginning of the book for being a witch's cat! They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples.

Instead, he longs to be an ordinary kitchen cat that spends his time sitting by the fire and catching mice for his mistress. This sets him apart from other witch's cats like his twin sister Sootica, who have pure black fur and green eyes. How Gobbolino finally did become a kitchen cat, and found the love he so desperately wanted, makes for a charming story. First published in 1942, Gobbolino the Witch's Cat continues to delight children - a true modern classic. He wants to be a kitchen cat, and yet he goes through town after town without actively looking for a kitchen that wants a cat.

rămâne la o familie care îl crede un pisoi normal, iar asta dă peste cap întreaga morală a poveștii. Reissued for its seventy-fifth anniversary with illustrations by the award-winning Catherine Rayner, this classic tale has been loved by generations of children. Whether this is because the author's skill improved in the four years between the two books or because cats are easier to anthropomorphize than wooden toys, is a matter for debate. He escapes to look for a kitchen home but is distrusted everywhere he goes and blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer's milk turning sour and the orphanage children's gruel turning into chocolate. She said she enjoyed the book but it's not one that I enjoyed all that much, the repetitive format began to pall a bit.
