About this deal

SIMPLE STRATEGY GAME: This family board game is easy to get the hang of and only takes 30 minutes to play. His skill has led to this being a solid, enjoyable cardboard recreation of The Godfather that combines a few different mechanics into a satisfying set of decisions, and perhaps the best compliment I can give to Corleone’s Empire is that it’s actually quite easy to learn, yet its mechanics hide some genuine depth, making it a really good choice for folks just getting into playing board games. Figures come in two types: henchmen who carry out the more mundane grunt-work, and family members who influence multiple adjacent areas of New York City. Once everyone has finished placing their family members and thugs the game moves on to its next phase; Turf Control. And yet while I found the Godfather to be an enjoyable game it always felt a little flat and lifeless.

Instead of making a simulation of the movie which would be boring, he went for a more streamlined approach. The board is really striking, and I know many others have not been happy with the background art of New York, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Instead, let’s say that the action is “inspired” by the kind of things that the characters might have done while they were off screen. They shake down the backs of businesses, but most importantly a family member shakes down the back of every business in every turf they are adjacent too giving access to a huge amount of resources.

Yup, while worker-placement games are often relaxed affairs where the only real head-on collisions come from using a spot someone else wanted the Godfather theme here means that there are more chances for outright aggression through jobs that let you gun down opponent’s figures or steal their cash. Each player must utilise worker placement, set collection, and area and majority control alongside completing gang land business deals and some well-timed hits on their enemies.Players play as mob bosses vying for control of rackets in various neighbourhoods to gain the most money and become the Godfather. You need to keep involved in every aspect of point scoring to be successful and never let anyone corner the market.

If you are a Euro-gamer looking for a dudes on a map experience or, if you like the other big tiles form Eric Lang and CMON but want to try something a little different then give this a go. I also like how there is a round tracker included on the board, which clearly outlines any extra benefits or actions that need to take place each round. This one has enough tweaks to make it a worthy addition to the genre for sure, and any gamer who is also a fan of the film is certainly going to want to pick this one up. The cards depicting the various illicit goods you grab throughout the game also look utterly boring. All of the text is broken up really nicely with either large examples or extra artwork, but not so much that it seems like the designers are wasting space.

With his health on the decline, jackals are stalking the streets and carving out slices of territory to pick clean.Thugs are placed on businesses to “Shakedown” the front of the business affording them bonuses in the form of illicit goods, cash, extra job cards, or the ability to “Suitcase” money. In short, the game is a streamlined, confrontational worker placement game filled with murder and intrigue. At two players the game is extremely close as you start with more figures and all attacks are directed one way. I mean, it doesn't take anything from the whole experience, but they could've made the immersion even bigger if every single card had an individual illustration.
