Strong centring force is an issue I have always had with many spring-loaded yokes but on the XPC, it is hardly noticeable. Small personal quirks aside, this is without a doubt one of the best hardware sets available for flight simulation.

I wanted to fly on the VATSIM network but was scared that the mouse yoke would be too hard to control. The Alpha XPC also features a major upgrade to its sensors that results in smoother and more direct sensitivity.

First of all, it’s a tool-less process that takes just 1 minute to figure out: there’s a base that can be secured to the table through a strong suction cup, or you can use two mounting plates that clamp onto the desk.

Well, I’m happy to report that you’ll feel like a real C172 pilot with this thing, especially if you’ve never flown with a yoke! It was designed to fulfil the requirements of both flight simulation users and student or full-time pilots. Honestly even when grasping the yoke normally with the left hand the reset view switch is far too easily hit. I switched to the XPC after owning the original version for about 18 months and the control sensitivity of the XPC is significantly smoother and feels more direct. The distinctive front grill with the honeycomb pattern in the Alpha yoke has also been redesigned in this new iteration of the product.From take-off to landing, the controls had a reassuring weight behind them and you are quickly reminded if you are out of trim. The left handle features an 8-way HAT switch along with dual rocker switches for the elevator trim and two push-buttons, which can be configured for the autopilot disconnect and push-to-talk functions. With this base securely mounted, you can then slide the yoke onto the base and tighten a couple of big plastic screws in the back to push everything together. It’s also a surprisingly good spot to rest your keyboard and have it easily accessible during flight!
