On 1 February 2011, United equalled the club record league unbeaten run of 29 matches, after a 3–1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. In 1956–57, Manchester United became the first English club to enter European competition, entering the European Cup, following the Football Association's refusal to allow Chelsea to enter the previous year. Everton (1,574pts), Newcastle (1,410), Aston Villa (1,358) and West Ham (1,258)complete the top ten. Solskjaer was nonetheless rewarded with a permanent contract and the following season he led United to a third place finish in the league and the semi-finals of both cup competitions and the Europa League.
