Description

This Single Malt is unpeated, lightly fruity (orchard fruits) with a very delicate and subtle sherried character. This blend has an ABV of 45% and is a rather less peaty malt, with an exquisite fruity profile and a certain sherry cask influence. The new single malt is said to be made with whiskies spanning various ages (hinting at the inclusion of older whiskies than the previous NAS release) with classic delicate, floral character and primarily ex-Sherry casks used for maturation. Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru chose a valley in the Miyagi prefecture as the site for his second distillery and started its operation in 1969. Miyagikyo was set up in 1969 after Taketsuru had been making whisky at Yoichi for 35 years and was designed to produce very different style of spirit.

MODERN AND INNOVATIVE DISTILLERY – Miyagikyo was set up in 1969 after Taketsuru had been making whisky at his more traditional Yoichi distillery for 35 years. They are distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a variety of cask types - including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and even mizunara. At the foundation in 1934, apple products helped Nikka to keep the business sustainable while the first whiskies were maturing, just like Rita supported Masataka’s dream. Bottled at 45%, it is smooth enough to not need water when sipping neat, but a tiny splash will release more layers of flavour and help with appreciating the wonderful elegance of the spirit. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. My rule of life prescribed as an absolutely sacred rite smoking cigars and also the drinking of alcohol before, after and if need be during all meals and in the intervals between them. Travelling in the area one day, Masataka came upon this site completely enclosed by mountains and sandwiched between two rivers. GRASSY NOTES, CANDIED CITRUS PEEL AND SPICES WITH A RICH SHERRY INFLUENCE – Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt is made from unpeated and lightly peated barley which gives a complex and delicate whisky with notes of freshly cut grass, nuts, citrus peel and the merest wisp of smoke.

A more fruitier and spicy house style than the smoky and rich Yoichi and is also used in the award winning Taketsuru range of blended malts and the Coffey Malt that refers to the type of tall continual still named after the Irishman that invented it rather than the hot beverage! Masataka Taketsuru, the visionary behind Nikka, opted for a scenic valley in the Miyagi prefecture to establish his second distillery. Miyagikyo Single Malt has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence.A full-flavoured and rich whisky with malty flavours with notes of liquorice, ginger and cinnamon spices, and chocolate.
