You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! Also, believe it or not, there was also a twist to the plot that I WASN'T expecting in there, and that just brought the story up a whole nother level! As she sneaks around the palace, Amelia is shocked to discover some glittery secrets about her arch enemy. Laura is a star of the children’s book world – as well as the magical Rainbow Grey , she is also the author and illustrator of the much loved, bestselling Amelia Fang series, whose characters have captured the hearts of children everywhere and whose adventures are published worldwide. We love the charming and funny illustrations, ghoulish puns and jokes and the wonderfully inventive magical creatures from mischievous caticorns to unicorn lords and terrifying angel-kittens.

In the meantime, the Prince, Tangine will tour the town's school as part his training to become King. The first in a series, this ghoulishly funny chapter book is full of fabulous gothic pen-and-ink illustrations and explores the importance of friendship. A book set in Nocturnia where everything sparkly, fluffy and cute is considered terrifying seemed like a great break from the literature I would normally read. Welcome to the world of Nocturnia, where darkness reigns supreme, glitter is terrifying, and unicorns are the stuff of nightmares! The thing is that there wasn't even an attempt to talk thing out - it's quite important to show children that thing can be resolved by speaking up. Amelia very quickly captures you heart and so too do her quirky companions; a yeti, a mini grim reaper, and a pet pumpkin (who is an absolute cutie and I want one! All this considered I couldn't give Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball a very high rating, which makes me incredibly sad since this book had such potential. This makes Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball a very satisfying, funny and curious opening title to a wonderful series.

It's silly, in that Addams Family vein of humor where things could be scary but instead are delightful. Delightful, punny and brilliantly illustrated, this is a charming and madcap Halloween adventure that will make every reader want a pet pumpkin of their own! References to diePhone and The Great Gothic Gravestone Carve-Off had me chuckling, adding to how much fun I had reading this! Amelia Fang wants nothing more to spend time with her best friends Florence (a rare breed of Yeti, TYVM) Grimaldi Reaperton, and Squashy! I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.Gorgeous, funny illustrations, along with very satisfying word play, within wonderful storytelling, ensure Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball is a tip-top choice! She's the perfect antedote to typical children's book characters with a love for everything grubby and spooky. I can't believe I loved this story as much as I did but, by the end, I was absolutely hooked and kept thinking that if I ever have kids, I HAVE to read this to them! I adored this first book which really sets the scene for the series and makes you want to find out more.

This book follows Amelia Fang, 10, as she complains about going to yet another one of her family's Barbaric Ball to her parents, Count and Countess of Nocturnia. Laura's newest book, RAINBOW GREY, a book packed full of weather magic and cute flying cloud-cats was nominated for the Sainsbury's Children's Book Awards 2021. This is a gorgeous book full of adventure, friendships, secrets, disgusting food, monsters, a well mannered ghost butler and ghouls. And when the King’s spoiled son Tangine captures Squashy, Amelia and her friends must escape the party to plan a daring rescue!

Amelia is delighted that she will not be the only child to attend her parents’ annual Barbaric Ball at Fang Mansions. Amelia sets off determined to retrieve Squashy away from the awful prince but can she and will she succeeded and what is wrong with the prince to make him so awful? When she reaches school age, she visits both a fairy and vampire school to see which she prefers - but everything goes wrong. With gloriously gothic illustrations from the author herself, they perfectly compliment the playful and amusing tone to the plot. When I'm not working, I'm usually making 3D models of characters, creating Harry Potter fan art, baking (and eating) and making ‘To Do’ lists. The deep issue in the book a round friends and parents worked nicely in the last half of the book when Amelia figures things out as the plot develops on and was actually a great twist as well as truthful in how we act to people as we develop relationships.
