About this deal

For me, this is by far the best work she has written and I would definitely recommend this as the perfect holiday read. If you enjoy a well plotted and well written book with a hidden mysteries then Can You Keep A Secret could be the book for you. Emma Corrigan isn’t a twit, but she does have a tendency to fall into awkward situations, mostly because her insecurities rule her personal roost.

Jack catches Emma talking to the tabloid reporter hired by Gemma/Jemima and storms off, despite Emma protesting she'd never sell his secret. There are a number of really interesting themes in this book but I had some trouble getting into it. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets.Like a riotous gossip with your best friend—it’ll have you laughing, cringing and hopelessly engrossed from the first page. I LOVED the premise…if she had just added a little extra alpha in the H’s character, it would have easily been 5 stars.

For instance, the song that makes Emma cry in the book is "Close To You" by Carpenters, but in the movie it's "Demons" by Imagine Dragons. She also paints a picture of a dysfunctional marriage with a work-driven husband who throws money instead of time and love at his increasingly dependent wife. If you like a psychological thriller, just like I do, you will definitely want to read Can You Keep a Secret? Thus begins a series of chaotic, emotionally exhausting and funny episodes that thrust Emma, with her workaholic best friend, Lissy, and their awful flatmate Jemima, into a world of fairy tales, secrets and deceit. There were sufficient hints and nudges to keep me guessing but enough concealed to leave me in the dark until the reveal. You can see she’s a really patient person judging from how she deals with her family issues, her awful coworkers, and her even more awful boss.

However, Emma did a lot of weird things and a lot of thinking in her pretty little head, which were very funny. It happens on very rare occasions that I can't quite figure out how to articulate my thoughts about a book.

I’ve always had this deep down conviction that I’m not like everybody else, and there’s an amazingly exciting new life waiting for me just around the corner. movie is much more diverse, neither of the two leads - nor Emma's boyfriend Connor (David Ebert) - are part of this push to add more representation. His decision to cut his losses and sell Thornbury leads to a reunion weekend where he and Lindsey (now in a relationship), Rachel and their friends Hilary, Niall and Marcus can say goodbye to the house. What unfolds in the subsequent pages is the story of how Caitlin, a naive, unspoilt Australian girl from Magnetic Island came to be alone with her son in that beautiful, big house in America. And Emma's embarrassing bedspread in the book is Barbie themed, while in the movie it's My Little Pony. Also there are Rachel’s cousin, Hilary, Rachel’s brother, Patrick, and his two friends, Marcus and Niall. Further, instead of living in London, Emma lives in New York City, which means she meets Jack on a plane from Chicago to New York.
