About this deal

Again from a model point of view these are stunning with both a driver and a sniper on the back of each bike capturing both elements of the Ranger design and modern updated jetbikes! Compared to the Autarch and the Shroud Runners, the Aeldari Rangers – the final Aeldari unit in the Eldritch Omens box – is a bit of a comedown. These rules do wonders for creating a tense battle that feels perfectly balanced, and can be imported into any battles outside of Eldritch Omens that fit the "Goliath Down" criteria.

Over the last 15 years, the Aeldari have been the recipients of a fairly measly scattering of new figures every now and then, leaving the vast majority of their range back in the early Noughties. The story within tells of the exploits of the Aeldari Autarch Ghaelyn as she and a small contingent of warriors seek to escape the clutches of the Chaos Space Marine D'vok the Warpsmith. These are a totally new unit, and one that’s at least promising, because they are both fast and reasonably durable, generally a good combo. Let me preface by saying, jokes aside, Chaos are EXTREMELY likely to be a part of some grandiose rules-rollout later this year, but not as soon as many would like.

The ambitious Warpsmith D’vok the Unmaker once flew the banner of the Iron Warriors, but his scheming kicked off a civil war that tore his warband apart. And with a warhost of new Aeldari miniatures rapidly heading this way, Craftworlds players will soon be able to expand their campaign of revenge even further. The Autarch then realizes that if the Warpsmith should succeed, it would be open hunting season for Spirit Stones (cause it isn't already? She's a nimble warrior, and can be equipped with gear that either lets her fly or use a warp strike.

You’ll be able to recreate the clash between these two champions with the Eldritch Omens booklet, which includes two new missions as well as Crusade rules for both warbands – allowing D’vok to develop Sentient Mechatendrils or Ghaelyn to claim the vengeful Exile Glaive. Then there are five surreptitious new Rangers, and three new Shroud Runners – swift two-person jetbikes with a sharpshooter riding pillion. Going forward I hope they fix this and make these battle boxes more user-friendly in the way you approach the units contained within. There’s a lot to unpack here based on what we know about the various changes coming in Codex Aeldari, so let's start with the Autarch. With a host of new figures for the followers of the Dark Gods, as well as a very long-overdue injection of new plastic into the (A)Eldari range, this is a battlebox that fans won’t want to miss. Either way, we know new Chaos Space Marines, and most likely some rules, are on the way with Eldritch Omens, question is what else will we see for the followers of the dark gods after that? Whilst this little run-down serves in the first instance to highlight the huge disparity between the number of figures included in a 40K box when compared to an AoS box, it also shows that, when compared to either franchise, 16 figures is pretty poor. It is as if they are frozen in a moment, flying across a battlefield, wind in their robes and beneath their hoods as they rush forward.

All of the Wargear options are similarly sweet with some great options changing the model to a completely new one.

I really struggled to pick which figure to build: the imposing and indomitable Forgefiend, clad in plates of armour and piled high with guns and other armaments, or the terrifying, gnashing Maulerfiend with its lasher tendrils and giant fists. Each side gets access to a Tactical Ruse or Equipment Ruse which add additional effects for the battle, for example the ability to gain special ammunition that corrodes the save characteristic of a vehicle or the ability to plant mines that can be set off when enemy models get near them! This rules, as it both increases the chance of the opponent trying to merc them and failing (hopefully leaving one of their units awkwardly in the open to be neutralised) and inflicts some token damage even if they do go down. New and existing players will find plenty of fresh gaming options, making this an ideal choice for all collectors.
