About this deal

This was pretty entertaining but after hearing some interviews with Dave Scott and Mark Allen it sounds like it's largely fictional and conjecture on behalf of the author.

This is the moment when—7 hours, 58 minutes and 2 seconds into what may be the greatest race two men have ever run—one begins to prevail. When I trained, I was maniacal and when I took breaks there wasn’t a compromise of shortened or easier days—I just stopped. The two men have been asked if they ever exchanged words during the race, but save for three words: “That’s not fair,” they said no words were uttered during their eight-plus hours together (and these words came from Allen, after Scott’s then-wife appeared from the crowds with their newborn baby and ran alongside them for a few strides).I loved Secret Race (about doping in the cycling world) and I hoped this book would be fascinating too. Nothing against Seth Michael Donsky, but I don't think his narration style was the best for this book. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees.

He raced, and even though he never did an Ironman—I blame me being born for that—he still loved the sport, and was stoked when I got into it in my 20s. He remained behind him for much of the 112-mile ride, despite Scott putting in several efforts to get away. Fitzgerald eases readers into the nuances of the sport, capturing imaginations with a satisfying study of two exceptional athletes and what makes them tick. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Iron War is the very first time our sport has engaged in Krakauer-style journalism, where full-featured personalities are presented to readers without excuse, or pause, or an author's self-censorship.

Oh, and pausing between "Iron" and "Man", every time, doesn't add suspense, it just shows how much of a turd you are. He has enjoyed unprecedented access to professional endurance athletes over the course of his career.

I’ll also add that if you’re a fan of the book Born to Run (which I love, not necessarily as a running gospel but because it is extremely well-written), you’ll love Iron War. The perspective on the two protagonist is really in-depth from their outlook on life to their yearly final workouts and meals in the week leading up to the world championships. Iron War by Matt Fitzgerald recounts the fabled Ironman world championship battle between triathlete legends Dave Scott and Mark Allen. Now that is the kind of effect this book can have on you if you had dabbled or even had a remote interest in endurance sport.A compelling read for any fan of endurance racing, especially interesting as they were still figuring out optimal nutrition, gear, and clothing at the time. Really, I work in IT and I've heard computer text-to-speech programs with more emotion during dialog than this loser. Scott was by far the more experienced athlete at this point in their respective careers and his race strategy differed greatly to Allen’s. Iron War is perhaps, the most simple map in the game, as it only features three islands, two medium sized islands, Wayward Isle at the north-west, Sentinel Isle at the south, one small, unnamed island, and a few asteroids scattered around the map. The two greatest athletes of triathlon’s pioneering generation raced side by side, literally, for eight straight hours at breakneck speed before Allen finally tore away from his longtime nemesis with less than two miles left in the 140.
