About this deal

In this Key Features of Instructions Year 2 lesson pack, inspired by 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch', children will start by comparing two of Mrs Grinling's recipes and discussing which one would be easier to follow and why.

When my lot were little, there was only this one - but my grandson quickly spotted that there are several more now in the same series! Will Mrs Grinling think of a way to stop the greedy seagulls from stealing the lighthouse keeper's lunch? This instructions Year 2 English Planning Pack is based around the beloved story of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Ronda and David Armitage. Every day, Mrs Grinling makes him a delicious lunch and sends it to the lighthouse by a special cable system. Our word mat would look great as a classroom display or you could laminate them for a class activity and for multiple uses.

I believe it encourages children to be more inventive and to not give up if they fall at the first obstacle. I experienced a teacher using this with a reception class for a whole term topic which worked really well and the children loved it. Whilst on Inclusion week at a special school, I saw this book being used in a KS3 class of children who had moderate to severe disabilities.

We're thrilled to announce that rights to the full, 2-act version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are now available without restrictions for performances scheduled to take place before 31st December 2023. I like the problem-solving element, which I think ties in nicely with a lot of classroom lessons (and that's how I'm generally thinking about a lot of these books). Children engage in the story and found the attempts of the husband and wife to stop the seagulls from eating the lunch to be very funny. When seagulls start stealing the food, the couple must work together to find a way to sabotage them.My children loved this in the 1980s, and I'm now enjoying being able to read it to my four-year-old grandson, who likes it as much as they did. Stefan Stuart’s ever impatient hare, more boyish than leporine, makes for an appropriately lively contrast despite his weaker singing voice. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It's also an excellent way of encouraging children to persevere and keep trying rather than giving up when things don't go to plan. Following the success of Pied Piper Theatre’s Burglar Bill last year, this new two hander for very young children follows a similar format.
