About this deal

I wondered what had happened to our lovely Vianne, until I found that this woman was actually The Girl With No Shadow.

Imagine having three life-coaches who had been through the toughest mental and physical challenges; a crack team of problem-solvers who knew in their day job that one mistake could be the difference between life - and death. Anxious to start the story, anxious to know what was going to happen, anxious to find out why the characters in this second story were so different than in the first book, anxious to know what had happened to them, anxious about the new character in the story, stomach churning, bile in the back of my throat anxious about what she appeared to be, about what she was going to do, what she did, and what she said. Her hobbies are listed in Who’s Who as ‘mooching, lounging, strutting, strumming, priest-baiting and quiet subversion’. Cloaked in a new identity, that of widow Yanne Charbonneau, she opens a chocolaterie on a small Montmartre street, determined to still the wind at last and keep her daughters, Anouk and baby Rosette, safe. Then a glow began to clear away some of the tarnish and haze and allowed a sparkle to shine here and there.

Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself. This is what makes me think that I need to go back and read the first novel--the movie script had completely altered this storyline. I appreciated that emotional bonds between women were at the centre of the plot and that the dilemmas faced by Vianne in particular were so sensitively explored. Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. While I liked seeing how human relations develop, I found it more interesting to watch from Rosette’s perspective. The novel as a stand alone book, works well, it’s an easy read with nothing particularly difficult to understand, but as the second novel of a pre-established book it’s a bit too easy of a read. In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies. Chocolat had only good intentions but Lollipop Shoes shows that the world has evil in it too, even if it is the form of the very glamorous Zozie de l'Alba.

After certain events (can't explain, spoiler country) she decided she needed security for her family. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter. The concept of a stable living lures her in, except Annie aka Anouk misses her old life back at Lasquenet, unable to leave Roux behind in the past, not only that but she also has a four year old sister, the father of whom remains a mystery. On the surface, life seems good; Anouk goes to school; Vianne has finally found a niche for herself. There’s still quite a lot of humour there, but it’s quite black humour – closer in tone to Gentlemen and Players than to its predecessor.Vianne Rocher, now with two daughters, Anouk and Rosette, has forsaken magic and adventure for a monotonous life running a small chocolaterie in the Montmartre district of Paris. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It is usually read as a blow that forces the subject to re-examine all the pretences that they have been living under, so is quite appropriate for Vianne. As a character who has few words and mostly sits in the background being a child, she comes across as observant with a strong presence.

The occult undertones that simmered throughout Chocolat are more of a prominent feature in The Lollipop Shoes, and we witness both Anouk and Rosette’s supernatural powers developing. At times it’s a kind of benign possession, with certain individuals conspiring to take over control of the plot from their hapless creator and take it wherever they want to go. Some of the places are of course fictional but the essence of the area in real life has been carefully evoked. It's five years on, and Vianne Rocher and her two daughters, Anouk and Rosette, have moved into a flat above a chocolaterie in Montmartre.
