About this deal

The opening introduces us to Joe who is seven years old when he finds out his brother, Ed is in prison and is being charged with murder despite his protests to his brother that he didn’t do I Ten years on, Joe is the only person still standing by Ed, even the rest of his family have turned on him and he has moved closer to the prison to spend the last weeks of his brother’s life with him as his execution date has been set. Pip has known and liked Sal since childhood; he’d supported her when she was being bullied in middle school. Beyond most of the novel's action taking place on the moon, this is a sci-fi novel because it explores inserting nanobots into the human body to heal it.

I’ve always loved Crossan’s books because of her simple way of telling a story in such a powerful and poetic way. I really liked Sarah Crossan's One, and have this book sitting on a pile, waiting for my mood to veer towards a YA Contemporary. I have previously read a book by Sarah Crossan and loved that, so it was the authors name that initially caught my attention and made me want to learn more about the book. Unable to ignore the gaps in the case, Pip sets out to prove Sal’s innocence, beginning with interviewing his younger brother, Ravi. Living in a completely different state from the prison, it is not until Ed's execution date has been set that Joe travels up to see him.Sugar-coat the pill, like children's vitamins, and hope you swallow SOME good stuff (like the hard science Bova incorporates).

Greg II, meanwhile, has convinced Mommy that he is stable, after years of therapy, and she can trust him with the Moonbase directorship. From Carnegie Award-winning author Sarah Crossan comes a poignant and thought-provoking novel that explores life, sibling bonds, and forgiveness as a teen tries to reconnect with his brother on death row for a crime he may not have committed. It really is a remarkable form of expression for a piece of fiction and I'd love to see it used more when applied with such skill.

Jackson’s debut is well-executed and surprises readers with a connective web of interesting characters and motives. Due to it being written from his perspective I developed a deeper attachment to Joe than a lot of the other characters and found myself wanting to understand him and his feelings around the situation even more. Best of all, the ending is a suspenseful one by every measure, and it is a healthy mix of satisfaction and sadness.
