Description

Bouldering can be physically demanding and potentially dangerous. Always climb with a spotter or a pad for added safety. Assess risks, be mindful of your limits, and practice proper falling techniques to reduce the risk of injury. All information supplied to us remains completely confidential and we will never pass it on to third parties. The best footwear is simply a pair of training shoes although we do have a limited selection of climbing shoes in various sizes so we will happily lend you them free of charge if the right size is available. Count's Buttress and Enclosure areas are a little more broken and hence quieter, though worth exploring. Almost all of these routes and problems list below are true rites-of-passage; an ascent if any one a memory not easily forgotten.

For those journeying to Stanage Edge by car, several parking options are available near Hollin Bank, situated below Stanage Edge, offering glimpses of the landmark as you park. Hollin Bank Car Park (Paid) Wolf Edge blends the excitement of climbing with breathtaking views. It’s a popular spot that attracts climbers of all levels, offering a dynamic experience that’s hard to forget. For non-residential courses we will meet somewhere convenient on the first morning of the course and a typical day lasts from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Full joining instructions will be provided with your booking confirmation.Having learned the basics and honed your skills some more, this course is designed to primarily teach you how to lead climb on natural protection and set up belays and stances. This climbing course may be of particular interest for those proficient at the local indoor climbing wall now itching to climb outdoors (and quite right too!) Nothing beats the real thing … two days of lead climbing covering the following:

The Churnet valley is loads more popular these days than when I first went. The sectors are spread out across both sides of the valley and offer the opportunity to climb on conglomerate. You will find a decent variety of problems, in my opinion, it is the traverses that are the best. It's generally overhanging to a lesser or greater degree. This one day Peak District National Park course is suitable for anyone wanting to learn the essential skills of bouldering outdoors in a safe and enjoyable way. We will cover the key elements of bouldering safely and coach you on movement techniques. We also to navigate using guides to get the most out of your future sessions. The initial part of the Stanage Edge walk can be challenging due to a steep gradient but it is generally manageable for most walkers. Once the cliffs at the top are reached, the terrain becomes much flatter. How far is Stanage Edge from the car park? Below is the juggy and cramped start of the route up the right hand end of the boulder. Note the attentive spotter (you should see his belaying!) There are easy and intermediate circuits here which should suit many styles of climbing. Many of the easier problems are on the eastern side of the tor, and given the high nature of some of these the area is perhaps a little more suited to intermediates. That being said, there’s still plenty for beginners to try out, especially when accompanied by more experienced friends. Ultimately, the area is a great option for a day out in the Eastern Peak without having to battle the crowds of busier areas.Continue your ascent, emerging from the trees to passing through another gate, then through a stone wall. We provide all the technical equipment although you are welcome to bring your own if you have them. All you need is suitable clothing and lunch. Long trousers that you can move in freely and warm upper layers are ideal.

Since Allen Williams’ first Peak District bouldering guidebook appeared in the 90s, the Peak bouldering scene has exploded in popularity with climbers from all over the world making crashpad-laden pilgrimages to dance their way up the sublime gritstone classics and powerful limestone crimp-fests.

Before bouldering was a recognised ‘thing’, training for climbing involved lifting weights and endurance exercises. However, a few clever people thought that by climbing without ropes or any other gear, they could achieve the same types of exercises whilst still getting some climbing in. Most of the climbing is on slabs or verts, and the holds are mostly rounded, meaning that the area is much more suited to cool conditions when friction is higher. Most of the landings are fairly flat and there aren’t too many highballs, so the number of beginner climbs is much higher than most locations.
