Description

Antwyr at first tried to overcome Crowe with sheer strength of will, battering against his mind for years, hoping to break down the Purifier's defences and possess him. When it became clear Crowe would not yield, Antwyr tried a different tactic, offering him untold power, yet still the castellan resisted. On the Warhammer 40k tabletop, five- or ten-strong Grey Knights strike squads are your bread and butter troops units – used for swiftly taking and holding objectives, and taking on smallerenemies with their melee and psychic weaponry. Purifiers are divided into squads led by a " Knight of the Flame" (effectively the Purifier equivalent of a Justicar). Remarkably, Crowe alone seems immune to the effects of the blade, though it is known that Antwyr speaks to him too. Part of the Castellan's duty as guardian of the sword is to record the blade's words, in case there might be some piece of forbidden knowledge or clue to Antwyr's weakness hidden therein. So far, vaults filled with tomes of lies and curses has yielded little of apparent worth, though Crowe continues undaunted. This is perhaps scant comfort to the Purifiers, who inevitably form the Chapter's spearhead in the dark times of the 41st Millennium. But for the Purifiers, as for all Grey Knights, duty comes before personal survival.

As terrible as the daemons are, this book is probably the first Grey Knight book to truly portray just how horrifying, in their own right, the Chapter devoted to battling the unholy and the daemonic truly is. Vashtorr the Arkifane’s quest for the Key-fragments is nearing its end, and the action turns to the dead world of Arthas Moloch in the fourth chapter in the epic narrative series, Arks of Omen: Farsight . Commander Farsight is just preparing to wrap up the vicious War of Dakka once and for all, when calamity strikes and his entire operation is jeopardised by the arrival of the Unhallowed space hulk and its Balefleet entourage. The rumors said the Grey Knights would be getting a Strike Squad, Dreadknight, and Crowe. So GW may have actually shown us their half of the box yesterday. If the rumors are true, you’re looking at the release for the Grey Knights right here, and a potential rescaling of their line is most likely not happening with this release. Castellan Crowe of the Grey Knights bears a heavy burden – to carry the cursed Blade of Antwyr, a weapon imbued with dark power. For the first time, discover the origins of this dread task and why only Crowe can be the one to carry it out. Wow, that’s quite a glow up! With such a glorious level of detail (including a library’s worth of purity seals and a hip-mounted novel ), he’s bound to be a favourite with painters, and we’d be amazed if we didn’t see more than a few of these entered into future Golden Demon competitions.Armed, as standard, with a wrist-mounted Storm Bolter and a Nemesis Force Sword– both of which any battle-line Grey Knight can imbue with additional psychic power to make every hit land like an artillery shell – each Strike Marine also has his own personal symbology, heraldry, and custom wargear.

Daemons are creatures of vindictive hatred, and their endless schemes are spun out over eternity as they fight for the souls of mortals. Antwyr is an ancient being, and no stranger to the servants of the Dark Gods, having crossed them many times in its long existence. To manifest the psychic power, you must first pass a Psychic test. The opposing player can then select one of their PSYKER units that is within 24" of the PSYKER unit attempting to manifest the power and attempt to deny that power before its effects are resolved by passing a Deny the Witch test. David Annandale takes on the Grey Knights, and gets them perfectly. In fact, this might be Annandale's best novel so far. The visuals of the book were superb. Annandale, a horror writer before joining BL, knows how to set a horrific scene, and he knows well how to turn the macabre into the scale of the epic for the 40K setting. The entire Grey Knights army feels much stronger in this codex. As befitting such an unusually powerful fighting force, they’ve received a number of improvements across the board. If you already read about their army-wide bonuses, you’ll know most units get an extra Wound to keep up with other Space Marines in the current crop of codexes. Unlike those other Adeptus Astartes, however, the Grey Knights can counter mortal wounds.Intensely psychological, character-driven story arcs of certain persons show them falling victim to their own ambitions – which are immediately and masterfully exploited by the ever-watchful dark gods. For no matter how pure and virtuous one may come across, true evil always can (and often does) find the easiest way to one’s heart... The actual portrayal of the daemonic incursion is different than, say, in Guy Haley’s Shadowsword but still rather vivid, as is the two feuding Chaos gods’ contest for a single human soul (an ideal example thereof being Commander Vendruhn). Descriptions of chaotic violations to the Sandavan cities are extravagant to the point of downright opulence, yet the human spirit’s path to damnation is rendered highly believably, with the seduction of Imperial citizens occurring deceptively slowly yet (almost always) inexorably. Still not enough? Brotherhood Terminator Squads know the Hammerhand psychic power by default, allowing them to take on some of the toughest opponents you’re likely to face.
