About this deal

Right, let's begin by saying that this book is NOT marketed as a retelling, however, is noted as being inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne. if we were given more to work with and understand, this might have made more sense and felt justified for his character. I get her connection to the dog, but I quickly became irritated with how many scenes the dog had to be in.

I always think that the plot of these books isn't the strongest part, but it was entertaining to keep me invested. Also, the ending scene could have been played out a little longer to give it that emotional depth that the characters were feeling. Regardless, that was developed poorly because I literally didn’t feel a spark between Alistair and Cora at all, like even throughout the book. banter between the main leads is my favorite part of any love story, and the banter between cora and alistair had me thriving. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file.the marshal being written as one of the main mlm characters and being the villian is weird to me idk. Instead, Cora (who is so irresistible but SO unappealing to me) goes round and round with Alastair keeping him at arms length even until the last line of the epilogue. She wasn’t even really looking for a job, but having an in with the mayor of the island where her brother went missing seemed like a good idea.

i know this is an incredibly negative review, and you do not know me as a person but i have been reading my entire life and i have never read another book that equals this level of bad. i understand having it written in the sense that the reader experiences some of what the mc feels but it’s to the point that i didn’t even know if he was alive until the actual end.

I wish Sav would’ve worked on this more because truthfully I feel like this book was rushed and the pacing and poor developing of the plot shows it😐. I could have loved it, given how much I loved Alastair and his beautiful, dirty mouth and how much he revered Cora. Sure, Cora doesn't like Alistair much, but that's not akin to the mythology - that's more so a common romance trope lots of readers love. We met Alistair Wolfe in the previous book, Oaths and Omissions (his brother Jonas’s book) so I was so hyped to read his book and see what kind of trouble he gets into.
