Songs like the soaring previously released standalone single, “The Quest and the Curse”, as well as “The Cold” (the latter featuring a real, epic choir), lure with a bombastic sound that skillfully combines orchestral melodies, epic heavy riffs and marvelous vocal performances. The digisleeve and limited box editions feature a second disc, containing the instrumental versions of the first disc. New album Dark Waters, their seventh overall, sounds like nothing other than a Delain album, features several former members and marks the debut of Romanian-born singer Diana Leah who sounds – eerily, it must be said – exactly like her predecessor, the justly popular Charlotte Wessels. DELAIN’s renowned orchestral arrangements, highlighted by modern shadings, set new standards and manifest the five-piece on top of the scene.

He brought back drummer Sander Zoer, who had been in the band from 2006 to 2014, along with former guitarist Ronald Landa, who was previously a member from 2006 to 2009. That's contrasted by "The Quest and the Curse," a heavier and moderately paced track with harsh vocals and choirs balancing Leah's ethereal singing. DELAIN's renowned orchestral arrangements, highlighted by modern shadings, set new standards and manifest the five-piece on top of the scene. Having been a fan of Delain for many years, both on record and live shows, I was a little worried that Diana Leah becoming lead vocalist rather than Charlotte Wessels, whom I love, may change the band. The biggest obstacle for me to overcome going into Dark Waters was the new vocalist, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Each song on this long player is catchy, full of pathos and a hit, Also the new singer makes a great job and brings soul into the heavy soundscapes. In the end this is full of energy, catchy lyrics and melodies, and enough substance to make it great.

Keyboard player and founder member Martijn Westerholt vowed to put a new band together under the same name, a prospect that made most fans hold their heads in dismay. Whatever the circumstances behind Delain’s split, Martijn has done an exceptional job in reviving the project. With some former members in tow, Martijn has recreated the sound of before, new vocalist Diana sounds similar to Charlotte and the album is packed full of great tunes. Sadly, Ad Infinitum chooses to throw in incomprehensible death metal growling - which I flatly can't stand.
