About this deal

The great thing about the book, is that it doesn't seem like learning and the information seems to be going in without too much chivvying! I like that the book is hard cover and pages are thick, pictures vibrant (and relevant) even though the stories are very weird - My son hasn’t been interested in the book so far, but I am sure when he is ready he will get a lot out of this book. This scheme has been very heavily promoted recently in Northern Ireland and I have some concerns that it has been oversold. As a teacher in a school that has just adopted the Jolly Phonics scheme I purchased this video for my own benefit to see if it would help me remember the actions suggested for each letter sound.

Each spread has a number of words for reading and for spelling, along with the Jolly Phonics action.Tell us why you liked or disliked the book; using examples and comparisons is a great way to do this. Nb in Lucy’s 1 star review it mentions wrong spellings in the book, however at the start of the book there is a page which explains how the books works. It teaches your child the phonetic sound of each letter and set of letter blends, which is vital for learning to read. Join the adventures of Inky Mouse and her friends and follow them through the seven stories as they learn the 42 main sounds of English. There is also a large embossed letter for little fingers to trace the shape, along with other Jolly Phonic activities.

Follow them through seven stories as they learn the 42 letter sounds in this beautifully illustrated board book.It says the words down the right hand side of each page underneath the little pictures are sounds and not spellings. Thus making it a good starting point for any parent who doesn’t know much about phonics (I was thought to read through whole word approach). I have also purchased the Jolly Phonics books 1 - 7, these are also good as they have pictures which they can colour in and practice their writing of the letters - would recommend the DVD especially if your child is learning Jolly Phonics! It is just a visual way of reinforcing the programme and its key objectives and it is not just for kids, but also for adults implementing the programme.

They are ideal for use with children aged between 3-7 years and can help children develop awareness of letter sounds and digraphs.

It is very good as an introduction and 'finding your feet' when beginning the programme for the first time. With Jolly Stories (in print letters), you can join the fun adventures of Inky Mouse and her friends. I bought this for my 5 year old son, 4 year old daughter and 22 month old son to help them with phonics. The DVD doesn't just contain the segment for children, but also valuable information about the programme and strategies for teaching that are very useful for teachers and parents.
