Makes me wonder why our foremothers burned their bras if people think this is the norm for women these days. I raise this issue as many are of the opinion that sexual freedom/liberality contributes to the above.

My 14 yr old DD loves X Factor but is mature enough to know it's all nonsense, having said that she has wanted to wear padded bras since she was 12. we lived in a muslim country (dubai)for a few years and my dd is far better adjusted to the rights/rolls/ freedoms of women here than she was there. They also hold a lot of our pride- the manifestation of our mistrust that leads us rely on ourselves. We have been told all week that Simon Cowell's show raked in millions of pounds per second in advertising revenue - I think he (or X Factor, whatever) should be heavily fined for showing this completely unsuitable nonsense before the watershed and during 'peak' viewing time for ITV.I, too, have been making comparisons with strict regimes such as in muslim countries where there is still vast amounts domestic violence/rape/exploitation of women. Oh how I love the highly defensive, angry and adolescent child within us 😅 Our angry child or adolescent self is the part of us that we normally feel the most ashamed of, impatient with, and at war with. Surely it's better to inform yourself of the possible consequences and then decide if you agree or not? To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I don't agree though with some of the posters that said the performance was sexed so CA could sell records.

it's all a question of context, what is appropriate, a subjective matter, people will think diffrently. Have just read this thread, and have to agree - in fact both DP and me commented on the fact it was pretty risque for 7. It wasn't to sell records by anyone and it's not like the performance didn't have any resemblance to the movie? But the reality is we may have adult bodies but we can still be emotionally stunted and suspended in time; a time when our defense mechanisms made sense and helped us survive, or when our responses were actually developmentally appropriate.All they needed was maybe one or two less articles of clothing and these people would have been naked. Should I hover over the TV remote when relaxing watching one of my fave shows just in case they suddenly change the boundaries of taste and acceptability? I'm used to scantily clad dancers and a fair bit of gyrating on TV, but that was a whole new level, which is why so many people were outraged.

I think the key is to have excellent 2 way communication with your kids at all ages and about everything.
