I’ve owned my Ron Thompson Beach Shelter for well over a year now and, honestly, only used it for the first time recently. Why? Because I’m one of these pig-headed types of blokes who often sees using items that make my angling a bit more comfortable as ‘being a wimp’, despite telling others that they should use them and also despite using other items, such as handwarmers and a luxury sleeping bag (when carp fishing) and wondering how I ever did without them! The IMAX Storm Safe Beach Shelter V2 is supplied with a carry bag to provide you with easy transportation from one location to another. The shelter is secured by piling sand or shingle onto the base flaps to make it stable in even the worst of conditions. It’s quite a roomy design and can fit two inside at a push.Sea fishing is often seen as a pursuit of hard, or mad, men! Standing on a freezing cold beach in the rain isn’t everyone’s idea of fun and, however much you enjoy it yourself, it’s hard to argue with someone who tells you you’re crazy for doing it! Overall the Imax FR is a great shelter lightweight, waterproof, easy to erect in a bad weather and affordable. The shape of the shelter offers great head room. Imax Storm Safe Beach Shelter V2 is a very stable shelter which with a bit of practice is easy to erect, even in adverse conditions. The shelter is secured by piling sand or shingle onto the larger skirt and once properly erected it is stable in even the worst conditions. The Salt XT shelter has a wide front opening and the mid-section has a flat roof, allowing you to sit inside the shelter and still have a good view of your rods. It’s wide enough for two adults to sit in reasonable comfort too. In addition to that, the angular design of the front access door allows you to stay seated inside and you will see the tip of your rod for bite detection. When the weather turns really bad you will be able to fully close the shelter to provide you with full protection.

The Beach Buddy Convertible shares many of the features of the original, and highly rated Holden Beach Buddy, but includes some new innovations. The Convertible has the same Beach Buddy profile but now has stronger ‘shingle’ flaps to hold it down. The dome is detachable so the Convertible can also be used as a simple ‘windbreak’. The Storm Safe has ample space for an angler and all his gear and you can even get two of you inside providing you do not mind a bit of a squeeze! There are roll up doors at the front and these have been designed to give even greater protection should you need it. While a shelter can provide protection from the elements on rough days, one is also useful on very hot days, providing much needed shade for anglers and especially bait. Cool boxes and the like function a lot better when kept out of direct sunlight, and if you’re keeping a few fish for the table then they’ll help keep them in good condition.
