Her husband is tired of her behavior of exploiting their family, but since he relies on Emmy’s income before his next book is published, he has no say. When Emmy’s advice negatively affects a follower known as Grace, her mother decides to take matters into her hands, and Emmy has to pay the price for her fame and popularity. For fans of The White Lotus and Big Little Lies, Ellery Lloyd's The Club is an exhilarating, addictive read, telling a story of ambition, excess, and what happens when people who have everything - or nothing - to lose are pushed to their limit. But I really did enjoy reading the different perspectives. They were varied and each had a great use in propelling the story. I'm also happy that Lloyd wrote from a male perspective which we close to never see in current day thrillers.

The Home Group is a collection of ultra-exclusive private members' clubs and a global phenomenon, and the opening of its most ambitious project yet – Island Home, a forgotten island transformed into the height of luxury – is billed as the celebrity event of the decade. Very fascinating the story is potentially inspired by their experiences. I have to say, when I read the novel, I kept wondering which characters were based on real-life celebrities. The Club is a fictional story about a highly exclusive club which has a chain of sumptuous hotels across the world. The owners of The Club are Ned and Adam who are in the midst of opening their newest location: Island Home. However, tempers are flaring with budget overruns and countless delays. How will Ned be able to keep his Club running? The pacing was great. You are in the middle of the problems between Dan and Emmy and at the same time there’s someone WATCHING. Oooof! It tingles. I listened to this on audio, with a cast of narrators. Their performances were excellent and definitely enhanced the experience of reading this book. It was pure fun, and I HIGHLY recommend listening to this one!I was fascinated by the Jekyll and Hyde aspect of fame—the famously charming and erudite actors who remained mute, the enfants terribles singers who were actually adorable, the strong, moody silent types that turned out to be chatty and warm, remembering the name of every single person on set.

The Club is a wholly addictive thriller, a clever blend of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and murder. Written with ruthless detail, The Club is a startling dissection of celebrity culture, masterfully told.”Later the author introduces a third person who appears to be on a vengeful mission of destruction. She is looking forward to having her revenge on Emmy. It seems that Emmy had made the stalker so angry. The stalker brought so much tension to the story to keep the readers engaged. Okay, rant over. 🤗 though People Like Her is fiction and extreme, I recommend if you want a behind glimpse of the world of influencing. I know for a fact that being triggered by this book plays a big role in my mostly ambivalent but overall negative take on it. Being in the throws of my own fertility battles, this book was a difficult one to read without getting choked up in anger and in sadness. Still, nothing compares to Ned’s latest venture: Island Home, a four-square-mile island only 90 minutes from London and covered in acres of woodland, beaches, five-star restaurants, top-of-the-line spas, tennis courts, swimming pools and even a helipad. At a price tag of 5,000 pounds a night, Island Home has been booked for a solid year before it has even opened. That’s where the trouble comes in.

Starting with a tangent: In my 2022 quest to downsize my physical tbr, I did a GR looksie at my physical tbr shelf and found the lowest rated books I own. But as the first guests arrive, the weekend soon proves deadly. It turns out that even the most beautiful people can keep the ugliest secrets and, in a world where reputation is everything, they'll do anything to keep them. As tempers fray and behavior worsens, as things get more sinister by the hour and the body count piles up, some of Island Home's members will begin to wish they'd never made the guest list. The Club seems to be receiving fairly positive hype, so you might just take my review and opinions with a grain of salt and give this one a shot. Everything being said, I'm still cautiously a fan of Ellery Lloyd, and may give their third novel a read before I make a final decision on them. As tempers fray and behavior worsens, as things get more sinister by the hour and the body count piles up, some of Island Home’s members will begin to wish they’d never made the guest list. In the lucrative world of finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are at the top of their game. They’ve mastered the art of the deal and celebrate their success in style—but a life of extreme luxury always comes at a cost. Lastly, and then I'll be done with my rant on this horrible book, the prologue is unnecessary and pointless because we can just figure out on our own that there is a stalker coming. And speaking of the stalker, at least the parts I read, her parts are unnecessary as well. The book can go through from Emmy and Dan's point of view and still have readers understand there's a stalker without their point of view. This masterly thriller from the pseudonymous Lloyd effectively delays revealing who among the large cast of characters has died violently...Lloyd (husband-and-wife writing team Collette Lyons and Paul Vlitos) makes the reader care about even unappealing characters, and the payoff is completely satisfying. Fans of Ruth Ware's One by One will be riveted." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Emmy was a successful influencer with her own brand. Her husband Dan did not like the children's pics on social media, but couldn't do much in the force of Emmy's personality. Entered the darkness which soon followed Emmy and laid down its claws onto her. Destruction was the foregone conclusion. What unfolds is a sinister, twisty novel about an internet famous family pretending to be “regular people” and what happens when a follower decides to take a step beyond the screen. Wait it's so hot outside that these people are all standing outside in the heat, on the pavement, which is no doubt putting off probably the most heat compared to, I don't know standing inside where the air conditioning was? Or in the shade on the grass? Wtf is this?! The grand opening of the newest branch of “Home” – an exclusive getaway for the rich and famous – that ends up with a body count. I came to understand that there is a unique set of pressures that public scrutiny exerts on a person over time, how intense the need to not be seen—to go somewhere you wouldn’t be judged for not being the fictional version of yourself a fan had their head—must be, especially in the age of the camera phone.”The Home Group recently finalized its biggest venture yet—Island Home—a closely-guarded, ultraluxurious resort, just off the English coast. Its three-day launch party is easily the most coveted A-list invite of the decade with even the most high-profile guests are determined to get in.
