Like all Powered by the Apocalypse games, conflict resolution in Avatar Legends means rolling two six-sided dice (2d6), adding them together, and adding the applicable stat modifier. Let each player choose a character to play as, taking their player board, token and card, and placing it in front of them. I’m not going to go over all of the things you can do in combat, but how you take “damage” in Avatar Legends says something significant about the game. Join the community and come discuss games like Codenames, Wingspan, Brass, and all your other favorite games! Now, when the statue moves, the ruin track will no longer be activated, but the final battle cards will trigger.

There might be multiple exchanges without interruption, or there might be breaks in between – think of how in the show two benders might exchange attacks, then continue a conversation about the source of their conflict, then go back to fighting again.

Either fighting a villain, recruiting an ally, activating a power on your player card, or moving on the balance track. The Wan Shi Tong’s Adventure Guide is an exciting compilation of new adventure material and play options. Place the Pai Sho and damage tokens into a central location on the table, along with the dice pool and final battle cards for later use.

Combat exchanges are a bit more complex than my platonic ideal of a Powered by the Apocalypse roleplaying game, but they also embody the Avatarverse very well – slick martial arts/bending fights are a big part of the shows. Instead, you narratively describe what your character is doing, and if that narrative description lines up with one of the game’s moves, then the mechanic kicks in. The three final battle cards are placed into their locations on the main board, and the game will continue. The instructions are included and though it took us quite awhile to set it up and learn to play initially, it's become quite fun to play as a family. Once all dice are assigned and activated, any villains defeated or characters recruited will be moved either off the board or into your play area. The Kyoshi era features a fluid political situation, where crime and corruption are frequent threats. I really like this method because for a story-based roleplaying game it is so important for the characters to be tied together and for there to be some idea of what the group is about. Think of it like a show – would the show stop and spend several minutes on Korra knocking a couple of guards out of the way while she’s chasing Amon?
