The art is extremely luscious and often felt like if I reached out to touch the page, I could actually feel the texture of the dinosaurs, which was super cool! I feel the creators of this series did their homework and put a lot of effort into showing the dinosaurs as more than just big terrible lizards. First on the list is Igarashi Keisuke, and Suzume will learn what makes him tick as they care for the park’s pachycephalosaurs and stegosaurs. Until, well the unfortunate accident, when people's attitudes soured on the idea of visiting dinosaurs. Even though I was surprised by how scientific it was even if in hindsight the blurb obviously says that.If the concept of a dinosaur zoo reminds you of a certain film franchise, well, it’s almost impossible not to think of Jurassic Park while reading Dinosaur Sanctuary. I love that Kinoshita decided to set the story on Enoshima, a town near Kamakura about an hour's train ride from Tokyo - I've visited the island once before and being able to imagine the story taking place there just adds to the experience.

So you shouldn't be surprised to hear that this didn't quite live up to expectations, but is a great start for what I think could be a stellar series. It's too easy to portray dinosaurs as just "terrible lizards" when there's so much more too them than just that, as is the case with any living creature. It is full of outstanding art, relatable characters, and a fun storyline that will leave you desperate for more dinosaur action and a chance to see how the park will change and how the staff's relationships will evolve in future volumes of Dinosaur Sanctuary.I greatly appreciate that they brought on a scientist to ensure as much accuracy as possible, and that they gave them the chance to add their own little notes between chapters. And this will allow Suma to complete her true goal, educating people about the true nature of dinosaurs and their place in nature's hierarchy. Between chapters, there a lot of additional information and curiosities about the things covered in the chapters. One such park is Enoshima Dinoland, as while it still has some guests and a dedicated crew, the finances are looking bleak, and parts of the park are falling into disrepair after a devesating incident shifts the public's perception on the prehistoric creatures. One of my favorite chapters was definitely when Suma works with the other female dinokeeper in helping to "revive" an exhibit.
