I can even see it with my daughter now, the excitement in starting to build your own collection”, says James about his sixteen-year-old, who he visits record stores with regularly. “It’s about owning a record. It’s yours, you enjoy it, you keep it. It becomes part of who you are.” leavetheworldbehind.com , Facebook , X , MySpace , YouTube , Soundcloud , equipboard.com , Wikipedia , Wikipedia

Sebastian Ingrosso adds: “We’ve made pieces we wish existed when we used to build our own vinyl stands, working desks, synth stands.” The solid, chunky design gives the player a presence in the room. It transmits the physicality of music in the collection, making it really claim space with the attitude of music woven into it – rather than making it blend," says Friso Wiersma.

Exploring opportunities for a new take on products already in the IKEA range – such as the FRAKTA bag – was always a part of the conversation with Swedish House Mafia, says James. The group was particularly keen on the exploration due to the part that some of these products played in their lives starting out in a home studio of their own.

Swedish House Mafia is a renowned progressive/electro house group consisting of DJs and producers Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello, and initially Eric Prydz. The name 'Swedish House Mafia' emerged in 2003 when the group did two gigs together in Sweden. After high demand from clubs in Europe, Prydz moved to the UK. The official formation of the group took place in late 2008 with Axwell, Ingrosso, and Angello. They released their first single "Leave The World Behind" in 2009 but were individually credited for it. In 2010, they released their first single credited as Swedish House Mafia called "One". The collection's name, OBEGRÄNSAD, was first revealed at the IKEA Festival in Milan. OBEGRÄNSAD is Swedish for unlimited, and the name hints at the target group of the collection: those with a limited budget but unlimited creativity. With the OBEGRÄNSAD collection, IKEA and Swedish House Mafia aim to democratise music production at home and enable the many to unleash their passions and creativity. It’s a connection that sparked both the curiosity and collaboration between IKEA and electronic music artists Swedish House Mafia, consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. A question lies at the heart of the collaboration: how can we make life at home easier for those listening to and creating music in it? Their reunion continued with the release of their single "It Gets Better" in 2021. With an impressive discography and electrifying performances, Swedish House Mafia has solidified themselves as one of the most influential groups in electronic dance music. The design supports creating, playing, enjoying and even just setting the mood," says Swedish House Mafia. A desk with speaker standsMusic is very much connected to a way of life, just like design. It’s so personal”, says Friso. “Both can really make a space and say a lot about who you are as a person, what you value, and how you look at the world. They really go hand in hand.” Armchairs are a place to unwind, reflect, and set oneself into the creative flow. The OBEGRÄNSAD armchair manifests the importance of comfort," says James Futcher, Creative Leader at IKEA of Sweden. The OBEGRÄNSAD record player The reveals featured three key products from the collection: a desk, an armchair, and a record player. The OBEGRÄNSAD collection has the versatility to offer solutions for the home setup, whether you are a music producer, DJ or musician. It offers solutions for simply relaxing and listening to music.

We used IKEA furniture to accommodate our teenage lives as creatives, so the purpose of the collaboration was formed around our own journey”, says Axwell.

On The Go

Many aspire to be a DJ, but not everybody has the opportunity to perform in front of a big crowd”, says James Futcher, Creative Leader at IKEA. “We learned a lot from Swedish House Mafia about the setups needed to make music. During the pandemic, we also started seeing people live stream DJ sets from their homes and studios using KALLAX as their stage. And we thought, ‘there’s a fun opportunity to do a small update of an iconic product for a collaboration around making and listening to music’.” Storage & organisation Furniture Textiles Kitchenware & tableware Kitchens Lighting Decoration Rugs, mats & flooring Beds & mattresses Baby & children Smart home Bathroom products Laundry & cleaning Plants & plant pots Home electronics Home improvement Outdoor living Food & beverages Christmas Shop Shop by room The name 'Swedish House Mafia' emerged around 2003; the group did two gigs together in Sweden. Friso is far from alone in enjoying and making music. Recent years have seen a rise in music production, especially among young people – many of which start out in make-shift studios in their own homes In the UK alone, 67% of young people aged 7-17 are making music, according to a 2020 report published by charity organisation Youth Music. And 85% said music makes them feel happy – a sentiment arguably echoed in parts across generations.

It’s a sentiment seemingly spreading. Experiencing something of a revival in the past sixteen years, vinyl sales alone saw a fifty percent increase from 2020 to 2021 in the US, according to a report presented by MRC Data and Billboard. Similar trends of rising popularity are also spotted in markets like the UK and Sweden. Sound is everything in music, and we have added two speaker stands to the desk to bring the speakers to the ear level. We have also added a pull-out shelf below the desktop. This functionality allows you to have a midi keyboard, for example, in easy reach, while maximising space on your desktop", says IKEA designer Friso Wiersma. The OBEGRÄNSAD desk is a core solution for upcoming music creators. The collection responds to the trend of making professional quality music at home and is essential for creating the perfect home studio for an affordable price. And while many, like James, have kept and grown their record collections over time, others are only just discovering the joys of starting the same.Swedish progressive/electro house group consisting of DJs and producers Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and, initially, Eric Prydz.
