I've had other cocker owners telling me I'm wasting my time even attempting to try and curb pulling cos that's what cockers do.

And a harness is also better for pets with neck or spinal problems, since it places an even force across the chest, not the neck. As for the soreness - doesn't seem to be affecting ebbie at all - maybe cos her fur is so thick, or maybe it's because it's slightly too big so loosens as soon as she doesn't pull. There are no metal parts in contact with the dog's skin and the point of steering is well down the nose and away from the eyes. Great in almost every way except it needs a toggle to keep the bit that attaches to the lead from slipping back, a knot just won't do if the dog is to wear it to run about off lead.

Just posted something about these on another site and it was suggested by pammy to post on here as well. The only drawback I can see with them is that being a harness, they do tend to matt up the coat underneath so probably would be no good for those Cockers with heavy coats and/or show dogs. It can be used in a number of ways: either as a passive means to simply stop dogs pulling, or as an active training aid. I was skeptical at first, as I had tried a halti harness on a rotti to no avail, the first time I put the Walkezee on Dixie it felt as if my arm was floating instead of being pulled out of its socket!

This simple figure-of-eight harness converts forward motion into an upward lift encouraging the dog to stop pulling. I reccomend the canny collar too, I got it for Dixie after she had been spayed and it was really good. The Lupi no-pull harness transforms your dog’s pulling movement upwards, which will prevent your dog from pulling on its leash. I've tried all the usual things: stopping and making him sit, turning back to the car (even putting him back in it) and also walking in a figure 8 .The following table sums up a number of dog breeds to give an indication of what size is suitable for your dog. Drontal dog dewormer eliminates all types of intestinal worms that your dog might come into contact with, in a single dose. We bought a harness for jasper that is metal with black rubber pads that goes round his chest and under his legs.

This is because the harness in the figure of eight transforms a forward movement into an upward movement. I personally prefer to walk a puppy on a harness until I'm confident that the pup will walk more or less steadily and not suddenly lunge towards/away from something as I'm wary of sudden stresses on young necks.Quote from: Jane S on April 11, 2003, 11:12:31 AM The only drawback I can see with them is that being a harness, they do tend to matt up the coat underneath so probably would be no good for those Cockers with heavy coats and/or show dogs. He's at his worst when he needs a poo in the mornings ( I haven't got a garden, so can almost understand this ) but it still happens when he doesn't. When it comes to stopping your dog from pulling on their lead there are many solutions, and a harmess is the simplest of them all.

But after that I expect my dog to normally walk by the collar (except when we use the flexi or long line).I think harnesses definitely have their place, for dogs with weak or damaged throats/necks, for dogs that have to be on a long line, for dogs who are being walked on a flexi, for dogs who for some reason of their own just don't like being walked by the collar. When I tried going back to a normal collar and lead he fell on his head, he'd got so used to pulling using his shoulders for power with the harness !
