Description

The author brings action and intense moments to the novel. The story built a little less suspense into the story line. Despite this, the plot is intriguing, full of chasing down leads and interviewing suspects and witnesses in anticipation of identifying the killer. Additionally, there are also threads of her personal life and dealing with loss and grief. And because Penny is a commissioning editor for fiction and there is a bookshop involved, not to mention a missing manuscript, the power of narrative shines throughout the discourse and is the vehicle by which both John and Penny forge a new beginning, not with each other, but with characters that are perfect soulmates. marvellous depth and authenticity based on some impressive research, and her characters, plot and fluid prose draw the reader into this world' - Daily Telegraph Thisbe had always wanted to write and with Penny working for a publishing house, she’d hoped Penny would look it over for her. But the manuscript vanished when she was murdered, and for the following seven years, with no resolution to Thisbe’s murder, John and Penny muddled along, still grieving but trying to move forward. When Penny met Irish book shop owner, Rich O’Driscoll, around the corner from John’s house, Rich was instrumental in the reopening of Thisbe’s case. While the song may not be based on a specific true story, it reflects the experiences and emotions felt by countless individuals who have battled with depression and suicidal thoughts. 3. What message does “Her Last Words” aim to convey?

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. In Her Last Words, book nine in the Detective Amanda Steele series, Amanda finds herself exploring the publishing world while trying to find the person behind the murder of bestselling crime author, Felicity Kelley. Whilst this is the ninth book in the series, it works well as a stand-alone read. Read on and learn the reason Her Last Words would make a great addition to the reading list of mystery fans. Kim Kelly’s latest literary triumph is a book that will resonate deeply with wordsmiths. Defined by perfectly defined and stunning prose, thoughtful characterisation and multilayered plotline, Her Last Words is a novel that holds strong meaning. It was truly wonderful to see a well-regarded Australian historical fiction novelist branch out and dabble in the world of contemporary fiction. I was immediately hooked when I started this book, the first chapter is so sharp, and such an intriguing concept for a story. I can always appreciate an unreliable narrator and this trope was thoroughly and successfully explored here! I loved the setting, I always say this but thrillers set in Ireland automatically become more realistic for me as a reader. The Author's note was particularly compelling and made the book even more special for the personal anecdotes shared. It’s important to listen without judgment, offer empathy and understanding, and encourage them to seek professional help. Simply being there for them and reminding them that they are not alone can make a significant difference. 10. Are there any organizations dedicated to supporting mental health? And at that moment, into her head popped Rich O’Driscoll’s upstairs bookshelves: long, long rows of books, seven shelves high, that swept down the hall, into the lounge room and around two walls there. Books everywhere. All those Irish authors unknown to her. This last was perhaps the sexiest thought she’d ever had: that a man might take her into stories she’d never been inside before.’ The blurb for Her Last Words led me to expect a mystery but that was a small part of this book. Yes someone dies and yes we have to wait until the end to find out who caused it, but the real story is the aftermath of the death and the repercussions on those left behind. Kelly writes a very good picture of depression, how it feels to the individual and how that affects those who are trying to help.

All of the Amanda Steele books are procedural, but Her Last Words is even more so than the previous books, and I thought it was great! Observing how Amanda and her partner, Trent, followed the clues was interesting. I especially liked how everything was brought together. I could empathise completely with John's struggle with depression and the description the author uses to describe depression was so apt for me personally. Her Last Words by Carolyn Arnold is the 9th book in her fantastic Detective Amanda Steele series. I am a big fan of Arnold, having read most of her books, and I love this series, which continues with another great addition. Her Last Words was a fantastic read, with me unable to put the book down. This novel consists of a prologue, 47 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case! There are numerous resources available for individuals in need of support. These include helplines, online counseling services, support groups, and therapy sessions. It is crucial for anyone struggling with mental health to reach out for assistance. 6. Has Courtney Parker spoken about her experiences with mental health?I loved all the focus on the literary world which is integral to the storyline, encompassing Penny’s job as editor in a publishing house, to Irish bookshop owner Rich. This book is also very much about hope and recognising that perhaps clouds do sometimes have silver linings. It’s about good triumphing over evil and how love can work in mysterious ways, especially when you least expect it. I know we all take something different from the reading experience; for me personally I thought the struggles some of these characters face made them feel very real as people, replicating issues that we all may encounter at some point in our lives. Thanks to the author’s writing I felt emotionally connected to these fictional individuals, caring about their futures as I would if they were dear friends. The only exception to this statement is Thisbe’s old flat mate who really does show her true colours! Her Last Words is the first novel from Irish author E.V. Kelly. This is a psychological thriller set in Dublin. A gripping debut psychological thriller set on the east coast of Ireland. Atmospheric, twisty, and propulsive, Her Last Words is an edge-of-your-seat read about obsession and dark secrets coming to light. Her Last Words” has had a profound impact on listeners, touching the hearts of many who can relate to the themes explored in the song. The raw vulnerability and powerful lyrics have resonated with individuals, providing solace and understanding in their own personal battles. 5. What resources are available for individuals struggling with mental health?

Set in Sydney, Her Last Words is contemporary with an complementary dash of crime. An incredibly engaging story, it’s all about love, grief, betrayal and hope. Kim Kelly's characterisation was second to none and every cast member, whether primary or secondary, good or bad, was expertly created and developed. A deep and meaningful story about love and morality that I heartily recommend.

The plot of this one was fun, I enjoyed that the murders were actually based on Felicity’s book. It made it just a different type of case to solve and to figure out why someone would use the victims’ own story to conduct their killings. Of course, there was a possible connection to a cold case that the victim was not killed in the same way. However, you learn that this is what Felicity’s next book was going to be about and maybe she was just a little too good at her research. There were a lot of people who you are introduced to that you think could this be the murderer? I know that I guessed on a few different people before finding out who it was and I did not guess correctly. I like it when I am surprised at who the murderer is because I feel a lot of times you are able to figure it out. Set in Australia, near Bondi Beach, we meet characters who are either in love with each other or themselves and definitely in love with what they do, whether it is writing, publishing books or acting. Depression is an eel that slips between the ribs unnoticed until it's feeding on your heart. It darts between circumstantial sense – the relationship between bad things happening and bad feelings had – and the shark shadows of every nightmarish dream, every unnameable, aching need." Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this book with me. Carolyn Arnold's books are always a pleasure to read.
