All HO scale four-wheel coaches and brake vans (excluding Henrietta and Toad) are missing their dummy coupling hooks. The PDF version of Toby's blueprints incorrectly labelled him as "Toby the Big Express Engine". [1] This was intended for Gordon's blueprints. I agree that Peter Sam has the most appeal and sales potential, and I've seen the demand for him has been greater than any of the other characters in narrow gauge. Yes there's been talk about Duncan and Sir Handel too, but it's been an on and off topic. I personally feel that out of the 3 engines, Peter Sam would be the best one to add to the range for 2019. In the twelfth series, Michael Brandon gave Sir Handel a voice that sounds like an impression of late actor Marlon Brando. Sir Handel is the only narrow gauge engine not to have a speaking role in the eighteenth series. Ironically, he is the only Skarloey Railway engine to have more than one speaking role in the twentieth series.
Sept. 1965, Loco No. 1 “Tal-y-llyn”, carriages Nos. 1, 2, 3, brake van, wagons and vans, details etc.I think that reusing the Ice Cream Wagon tooling is another idea with a good chance. After all, it is the only tooling in the HO range that was only used once so far (with the exception of specific characters such as Toad and Henrietta). As for the paint scheme, I would like to see it in a brown color scheme that is similar to the Sodor Salt Wagon. Lastly, for the face, many fans have suggested the angry expression that is shown above, and I completely agree with that suggestion. Here is also a head-on shot of it: Now, as for those questions, I would certainly get a model of him, however, I personally will only start modeling Narrow Gauge Thomas engines once I have the space for it, so for the time being, I wouldn't be able to, but I definitely would buy a model in future. Currently, Thomas, James, Diesel, and Rosie are the only HO scale engines with more than one variant. Sir Handel's whistle from the tenth series onwards is reused from Mighty Mac's whistles from the same series. His whistle sound is their whistle sounds from the ninth series only, but at five steps lower-pitched ( Mighty) and seven steps lower-pitched ( Mac/ Rex).
Gordon's express coaches were the first Bachmann Thomas products to be reintroduced following their discontinuation. In addition, these coaches were also given a yellow stripe to match their CGI counterparts. This is due to his model being a repaint of Bachmann’s existing American 4-4-0 tooling. As a result of this, the model is inaccurate in a few places. As in The Railway Series, Falcon and Stuart lived with Duke until their line was closed and they were bought by the Skarloey Railway and were renamed Sir Handel and Peter Sam respectively.
In the Railway Series when Peter Sam worked on the Mid Sodor Railway (and was still called Stuart) he was originally painted green and was later repainted into the scarlet red of the Skarloey Railway, however in the TV series he retained his green livery as part of the production decision to make the narrow gauge characters easier to tell apart.
I agree with most of the points you made in your post Chaz, I definitely think Peter Sam is the most logical for the next engine, and definitely the one I want to see next. Oliver, Rosie, Ryan, Paxton and Daisy are the only HO locomotives to be based purely on their CGI renders. All other models, including those with CGI faces, borrow elements from the model series builds. Due to sharing Diesel's body shell, the HO Paxton's eyes are raised higher than they are in the show, thus causing his whole face to be incorrectly proportioned. This issue was fixed on the large scale model, as both Paxton and Diesel were designed at the same time.Peter Sam told them about the television as well. And they were pleased and excited too, all except Sir Handel. " I don't hold with it!" he grumbled. " Vulgar, I call it. Fancy traipsing about making an exhibition of yourselves. I won't do it, I tell you! Telly something indeed. Just let the Thin Controller come here, I'll tell him something!" Skarloey said nothing, he just winked at Peter Sam. But next day, when the Thin Controller did come to explain about the television, Sir Handel kept strangely quiet. " Now", said the Thin Controller at last. " I want every engine to take part". " I..I..I don't feel well", quavered Sir Handel. " You poor engine", said the Thin Controller gravely. " You can stay in the shed". Sir Handel smiled broadly. " And your driver and firemen can take you to pieces. That would make a very interesting picture. Just what we need!" Sir Handel's feelings were beyond words. Which of the three ideas would you prefer? Or, is there an additional idea that you would like to see? At the time of writing this review Bachmann Trains have already announced that Sir Handel will be the next engine in the Skarloey Railway fleet to arrive. Given Peter Sam's warm reception, he's got a lot to live up to. Positives & Negatives In my personal opinion, Peter Sam is definitely the next character I would like to see in narrow gauge. Quite honestly I feel he should have been announced this year, but when looking at things from Bachmann's standpoint, it's understandable. I think Chaz made some very good points in his post, but I also have a few things I'd like to add as well. The narrow gauge van's roofs were most likely originally painted grey but were later changed to white as evidenced by the fact that the underside of the roofs is painted grey and visibly painted white on top afterwards. This change is also likely since the roofs are slightly darker than the Peco models' roofs as a result of being repainted.
