Each side of the front of the Supertunica features an embroidered band with spiral threads, which take the shape of leafy stems using the goldwork technique. The embroidery was carried out in 1911 by the Ladies Work Society and, as part of the centuries-old tradition for the Supertunica, is based on ecclesiastical vestments from medieval times. As symbol of his religious commitment to the Church of England and the throne, King Charles will be presented with the Coronation ring (also known as the wedding ring of England), which is placed on the fourth finger of the Monarch’s right hand. It’s the same ring that has been used for nearly two centuries beginning with the Coronation of King William IV in 1831, who commissioned the British jeweler Rundell, Bridge & Rundell to create the symbolic sapphire ring with baguette-cut rubies in the form of a cross across the face. The rubies represent the cross of St. George (for England) and the sapphire represents the Scottish flag. The only monarch who did not wear the ring was Queen Victoria, whose small fingers required a scaled-down version of the jewel. The Coronation service fell into six parts: the recognition, the oath, the anointing, the investiture (which includes the crowning), the enthronement and the homage. The anointing with holy oil is the central act of the religious ceremony and takes place in private.The service begins with the procession of faith leaders and representatives of faith communities, ecumenical leaders, realms and the choir, and then the procession of the King and the Queen Consort. During the coronation, the Archbishop of Canterbury will anoint King Charles and Queen Camilla with holy oil via the Ampulla and the Coronation Spoon. The principal decorations for the processional route were in The Mall where there were four twin-spanned arches of tubular steel that were illuminated at night. The arches were lifted into place by giant mobile cranes. Linking the arches down the route were the long lines of standards mounted with golden crowns and each hung with four scarlet banners bearing the Royal Monogram. For The Investiture, The King will be vested with the Colobium Sidonis, a white linen shift-like tunic; the Supertunica, a full-length, sleeved gold coat; and the Coronation Sword Belt. His Majesty will sit in the Coronation Chair as items of Regalia are presented; first, the Spurs, carried by the Lord Great Chamberlain. On 24 June 1953, the Honours of Scotland (the crown, the sceptre and the sword) were carried before The Queen in a procession from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles Cathedral. This sceptre is symbolic of justice and mercy and is placed in the monarch’s left hand for the crowning. It represents the sovereign’s spiritual role, with the dove symbolising the Holy Ghost, and traditionally has also been called the Rod of Equity and Mercy.This oil will carry a special connection with King Charles' paternal grandmother, as Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, rests in a crypt on the Mount of Olives. The Procession covered 1.42 miles. Flanking the Procession were over 1,000 Armed Forces route liners from all three Services and Standard Bearers of the Royal British Legion, Uniformed Civilian Services and Community Organisations. The King’s Life Guard turned out on Whitehall at Horse Guards Front Yard and gave a Royal Salute as The King, The Queen and other Members of the Royal Family passed. Dukes, bishops, peers and retired generals alongside former children's presenters and spies will perform a range of ceremonial duties when Charles and Camilla are crowned, from carrying regalia in a procession to presenting the items to the King and Queen Consort.
