Description

The themes here are generally cuddly and inoffensive, whether it’s starting a new career later in life, cross-generational bonding, female solidarity, or learning to better understand and support your partner. But the method of delivery, with its predictable contrivances, suspicions and miscommunications, is soapier than a bubble bath, and about as somniferous. Thrown never ascends beyond the level of a potboiler. The plot centres around the lives of 4 women at various stages of life and the ups and downs they experience. They meet, united by the gorgeous pottery teacher, Sasha, at a new pottery course at the community centre. There’s no doubt in any of those questions – not least since Cox spells out her intentions starkly at the start. When sexy Scot Sasha introduces his first pottery lesson, he compares the journey of clay from a moist lump to something beautiful with their personal transformations: they will go from strangers to friends, and solve all of their problems along the way.

Sheila: the nest is empty, there’s a lonely little feeling in her tummy and her husband seems so distracted. Between 14 May 2018 and 13 December 2018, Cox began a new late-night show on Radio 2; the show ran from Monday to Thursday between 22:00 to midnight. She was replaced as host of Sounds of the 80s by Gary Davies; Cox presented her final edition of the show on 11 May 2018. [17] The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number 7's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street. Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox has come a long way since the 1990s when Channel 4’s The Girlie Show made her one of the original ladettes. In 2019, her memoir Till the Cows Come Home: A Lancashire Childhood became a critical and commercial success; now comes a debut novel, Thrown. Tapping knowledge gleaned while presenting The Great Pottery Throw Down and grappling with themes from loneliness to infertility, it’s a funny, touching story of four very different women who meet at a ceramics class on a housing estate near Manchester. On 16 September 2007, Cox announced, on her BBC Radio 1 weekend show, that she was expecting her second child. [38] Cox's last weekend show was on Sunday 17 February 2008 before she left for six months' maternity leave. Her second child, a boy, was born on 10 March 2008. [39] She returned to Radio 1 in September 2008. Cox went on maternity leave for the third time, after her show on 7 March 2010. Less than a week later, on 12 March, she announced that she had given birth to a girl. [ citation needed]This story has Sara's voice ringing true throughout. In July 2007, Cox presented London Live on Channel 4, and appeared as a guest star on the Sky1 show Angela and Friends in November 2009 [20] and as guest presenter in January 2010. [21] Also in 2010, she appeared as a team captain on What Do Kids Know? along with Rufus Hound and Joe Swash on the Watch channel. [22] In August 2012, it was announced that Cox, Gemma Cairney, Huw Stephens, Jameela Jamil, Alice Levine, and Annie Mac would cover Fearne Cotton's show on BBC Radio 1 weekdays from 10:00 to 12:45, whilst Cotton was on maternity leave, until Cotton's return in September 2013. [13] [14] After Cotton's return, Cox did various cover shows; her final show for Radio 1 was on 17 February 2014. Well observed, and clearly drawing on the authors experience of presenting a pottery show, with one exception, the men do rather badly. It took me a while to realise the significance of the title, as most of the women are literally 'thrown' by their discoveries. The Bitterest Pill". Britfilms.com. 20 February 2007.
