About this deal

Sent to an English boarding school from her home in India, privileged Sara Crewe becomes a show pupil – a “little princess” with luxuries bestowed upon her because of her father’s wealth. She also makes up stories about the families in the neighbouring houses, whose lives she glimpses through the windows as she passes.

I’d read Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden and loved it – so I tried A Little Princess and liked it even more! Lavinia as well, from saying she knew Sara was always just a servant to jerking her arm to make it look like Sara deliberately spilled food on her. Alternately the Victorian standards of brown and dark could be referring to her just being tanned from growing up in India (it would be another few decades before tanned skin would become fashionable). Her strong character enables her to fight successfully against her new-found poverty and the scorn of her fellows. Burnett's captivating storytelling and memorable characters have made her a beloved author for readers of all ages.

S. National Education Association listed the book as one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children". She befriends Ermengarde, the school dunce; Lottie, a four-year-old student given to tantrums; and Becky, the stunted scullery maid. Easily Forgiven: Miss Minchin no longer owns the seminary but she's still allowed to teach there, in spite of how she treated the new owner's daughter.

Though of course she becomes rich beyond her wildest imagination again when it turns out the diamond mines were real and her father's partner is still alive. The whole palace tries all kind of things - from sandmen instead of snowmen to mudballs instead of snowballs. In 2012 it was ranked number 56 on a list of the top 100 children's novels published by School Library Journal. It's much more comfortable after "the magic" comes in and makes the room more livable, even for Becky. Ang Munting Prinsesa: Camille Prats as Sara (name changed to "Sarah"), Angelica Panganiban as Becky, and Jean Garcia as Ms. Earn Your Happy Ending: It's Sara's kindness in the worst possible circumstances that attracts the attention of her father's partner, lying sick in the house next door, and leads to their discovery of each other's identities. Meanwhile Ram Dass, Mr Carrisford's Indian servant, climbs across the roof to retrieve a pet monkey which has taken refuge in Sara's attic.

It's a beautiful winter's day at the castle and the Little Princess has found her old sledge to play on. A theatre adaptation by John Vreeke was produced by the New York State Theatre Institute and recorded as an audio book in 1999. However, her most famous work is "A Little Princess," which tells the story of a young girl named Sara Crewe who faces adversity with courage and kindness. But when the terrible news of her father’s death and failed financial investments arrives, Sara is suddenly left a penniless orphan. When she is told that her parents are expecting a new addition to the family, the Little Princess immediately announces that she does not want a brother - they are smelly and rough, and they have all the wrong toys. With her kindness and generous spirit never waning, despite cruel treatment from the school’s headmistress, Miss Minchin, Sara discovers that even in the greatest hardships, one can still find love, joy, and magic. Of course, as a French I was rather spoiled about "A Little Princess" pictures, because we had editions with illustrations by Marc Bloch, a true wonder. A diamond mine investment, which was thought to bring them more fortune, turned out to be worthless. And it serves us right; but it serves you right more than it does me, for you are a hard woman, Maria Minchin, you're a hard, selfish, worldly woman! Carrisford watches over Sara without her realizing that it was the man next door to the school who was secretly delivering presents and gifts up to her room to keep her spirits up.

The story of how she becomes in the truest sense, a real princess will carry every reader, through laughter and tears, to a remarkable ending brought about with the help of a pet monkey, a fairy-godfather Indian lascar, and a mysterious old gentleman. Pet the Dog: Miss Amelia defends Becky when Miss Minchin accuses her of stealing food and convinces her to drop the accusation. She has always enjoyed pretending, weaving stories for herself and the other children at the school, but also play-acting roles for herself and her doll. When he's away on royal business, everyone tries to make up a bedtime story for the Little Princess, but no one is as good as her dad.
