Red app icons that should pop look more like pastel shades, and while we find the limited saturation of blues and greens a little less obvious, it’s still there. Those results are better than the aforementioned rivals, and you’ll get this machine through a day of productivity unless you really push the hardware. For starters, it’s made with PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic that makes the manufacturing process more environmentally friendly but also results in a notebook with a funky, textured design that lets the Aspire Vero stand out from the 15. As the outstanding balance, plus the interest now form part of your payable balance they will attract interest at your account rate, meaning you will pay interest on interest. None of these are horrifying to see on a budget laptop — but laptops that are built cheaply tend not to last as long as nicer ones, and a laptop you need to replace quickly is not environmentally friendly.

The four arrow keys are less than full size to accommodate the addition of the numpad, which is a big sacrifice.Unfortunately, the Acer Aspire Vero’s display just doesn’t deliver, and the results are disappointing across the board.

While it may not be much greener than the original, it offers better performance across the board, keeping competitive with other consumer laptops. Based on the quad-core Intel Core i7-1195G7 CPU, the Aspire Vero did well on our benchmarks, proving that an eco-friendly laptop isn’t necessarily underpowered.Reusable packaging – as well as using recycled materials and being recyclable again, the Vero's box can be transformed into a laptop stand for an even smaller carbon footprint. The lid is rigid to offer good protection for the display, and the keyboard deck feels firm except at the top above the keyboard, where there is a worrisome amount of flex. At higher resolutions, the Acer Aspire Vero struggles to keep above 20fps, but at 1080p, it fared a lot better.

Inside the chassis is a powerful 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1155G7 processor and 16GB of RAM, perfect for handling large documents, multitasking or even some light photo editing, all without slowing down. This can lower the carbon footprint of its manufacture and offers a way to use some of the plastic waste we’re frequently told ends up in places where you hope it wouldn’t be. We're making continuous improvements to the compatibility checker and would love to hear your feedback! Turning the machine around, you may notice that the Aspire Vero uses standardized screws to hold its undercarriage in place. Acer’s vision of eco-conscious design extends down to all the materials we use in our packaging, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint upon the earth. And, no matter what CPU you choose, the Vero stayed cool and quiet: even if you really stress the hardware you’ll only hear a puny fan noise. The peak brightness level only hits 270 nits, which is too low for outdoor usage, and the display only produces 58% of the sRGB color gamut with mediocre accuracy levels – so it doesn’t render every shade that mainstream web pages, games and TV shows need. Connect to the world on a brilliant 14" or 15" FHD IPS display with 100% sRGB, a 1440p QHD webcam featuring Acer PurifiedView and Acer PurifiedVoice with AI noise reduction-making collaboration a breeze. While you can use this display for everyday workloads and watching media, nothing has much vibrancy, or nuance. Half the time it fails to recognise your finger, providing the not-so-smart login experience that was typical of Windows laptops from a few years ago.

The experience is tempered by its ho-hum display and lackluster battery life, though you might be willing to overlook those if you like the machine's green credentials; those are what elevates this machine from a 3. It may be the last hurrah of the Tiger Lake line before Intel releases its 12th gen chips and tries to claw back some of the ground it has recently lost to AMD’s Ryzen processors. The AMD Ryzen-equipped Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 was the king of the ring in this test, flanked by the VAIO SX14 and the HP Pavilion Aero. The styling is rather industrial with square edges and very little in the way of aesthetic flourishes but, again, it’s a look that appeals to me. In addition, I think Acer has the display brightness icons backwards on the F3 and F4 keys and for no apparent reason. The display may not be stellar and the webcam positioning is a farce but it’s still a well-made and handsome device that offers good value for money. Of course, the somewhat non-unique nature of its lofty claims hasn’t stopped Acer from branding the Vero as an eco-minded laptop up and down.
