Most well-known for presenting the BAFTA award-winning BBC Springwatch series and Animal Park , Megan is a passionate science communicator and biodiversity activist. As well as some of the well known species that are teetering on the edge of the abyss that is extinction, she also covers some lesser known species. Megan does seem to try not to paint too bleak a picture, but I’m afraid I was left feeling that despite the courageous work of the many individuals that she introduces us to in the book, who are fighting to preserve the featured species, it is all ultimately going to prove to be too little, too late. This book takes just 20 of these amazing creatures, from the 'celebrities' of the red list - the tigers, the northern white rhino, the kakapo - to the lesser-known, and sometimes lesser loved ones, and paints a portrait of them, their world, and the people trying to protect them.

I thought the book is well made its lovely, its nicely presented with further details on the subject and with the added Megan's experiences etc. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

She most recently presented Springwatch, alongside Chris Packham, and is the founder of The Self-Isolating Bird Club on twitter, and co-founder of Wildlife Rebellion. Packed full of wonderful pictures and deep insights into the lives of the beautiful plants and creatures the planet is in grave danger of losing - don't miss this book! Also included is one plant species, an orchid, making me aware of the practice of plant poaching, which is making many species of plant similarly in danger of extinction. Beautifully written, capturing the wonder and personality of each creature, big and small perfectly. She most recently presented Winterwatch alongside Chris Packham, is the founder of The Self-Isolating Bird Club on Twitter, and co-founder of Wildlife Rebellion. A really brilliant insight into an array of endangered species with a fantastic mix of facts and real life experiences. Sharks can navigate the ocean using electromagnetic fields; sloths use algae as camouflage; albatross can fly for hours without beating their wings; and orca pods each have unique cultures and languages. The diversity of life on earth is astounding, with each species perfectly adapted to its environment.

Much like her presenting style, Megan McCubbin's writing has an effortless appeal to a diverse audience, from the curious child to the most seasoned of conservationists.

Megan's enthusiasm for biodiversity and passion to save endangered species from extinction shines throughout.
