It should be noted that the ETHOS uses a small diaphragm (14mm) condenser capsule, which is very unusual for a broadcast vocal mic. While it is common for broadcast mics to have cardioid polar patterns, the ETHOS features a supercardioid response, enabling more focused capture of your voice with less background noise. Other unique features of this microphone include a superbly transparent foam windshield and a Triad Orbit M2-R ball joint adapter, making the mic superbly easy to position with precision. My setup is equal parts excessive and primitive since I'll be connecting to the Rodecaster Pro II production station, albeit in a home office that was never designed to be a recording studio.

Removing the foam filter gives the sound some extra air, and unless you work the mic very close, popping doesn’t seem to be a big problem, so I quite often used it that way. I'm not going to do the thing where I give you the full history of Neumann microphones and how the U 67 fits into it.The loudest of transients are things like drum hits where the crack of the stick on a drumhead sends a loud sound wave out to the microphone. The low levels of self-noise also make it suitable for capturing subtle sounds, such as acoustic guitars and piano. Some people often try many different microphone models before settling on the one that suits their voice or playing style perfectly. It’s an impressive piece of software and makes a winning combination with the Earthworks Ethos microphone. It would be nice if both the Icon Pro's grill style wind screen and the default one with the Ethos were sent together, so the user can determine the best one for their use case, or at least have the option to switch them freely when needed.

It’s for people who are professionals and who crave the natural sound and clarity the ETHOS is able to provide.its pivot mount is such a wonderful design and it means you can put the stand or boom arm just about anywhere. It’s simple to clean or replace, and the foam, mesh, and steel combination means even the most enthusiastic vocal personalities are unlikely to require any aftermarket augmentation. If you are approved for a credit limit with PayPal Credit and use it for future purchases, the APR for those purchases wont be more than 23.

Comparing this with the ICON USB, at first glance you can tell a difference in diaphragms size with the ICON only managing a 12 mm diameter. This was pretty much the deciding factor in my decision, since some of these will be shipped out to various people with wildly varying technical abilities. It is easy to clean or to replace and the foam, mesh, and steel combination make it unlikely to require additional aftermarket augmentation for even the most zealous vocal personalities. It excels at both, but I've not tested it enough on the guitar to determine if it's clearly a better or more balanced sound than more traditional options like the KM184.

When using the ETHOS XLR microphone, users will notice that they need less post-production EQ to get a good sound out of their voice. Foam Windscreen: By reducing noise from breaths and wind, the supplied foam windscreen helps you achieve clean vocal recordings. but the frequency range caps out at 20,000Hz and uses a standard cardioid pattern instead of supercardioid. Lately, I've been ruminating about some of my favorite recordings and why they sound the way they do. In truth, the mic is extremely natural in its reproduction, with a very pleasant weight and detail to the sound when used close-miced on voice.Another reason for the Ethos mic's excellent performance is its super-cardioid polar pickup pattern. Some of these issues can be overcome by speaking closer to the microphone – roughly 2-3 inches away. Jim Williams has spent much of his 56 years working with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Frank Zappa, John McLaughlin and Stevie Wonder. With the ETHOS, you sound like you but with the added depth and presence and tone that makes spoken word recordings sound professional. The ETHOS B is more sensitive than the RE20, but makes up for potential room noise issues with its tight pickup pattern.
